Former General Secretary and President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone: "Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong is an exemplary leader, trusted and loved by the people"

Former General Secretary andPresident of Laos Choummaly Sayasone expressed his sadness and deep regret at the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a close friend of the Lao people, as well as of himself.

In an interview with a VNA reporter in Vientiane, former General Secretary and President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone said that the passing of comrade Nguyen Phu Trong - a respected and honorable leader - is a great loss for the Party, State and people of Vietnam, as well as for the Party, State and people of Laos.

Former General Secretary and President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone emphasized that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is the one who brought him and the Lao Party and State invaluable sentiments and lessons. In the context of the complicated world situation, together with other leaders, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has given many profound instructions, led the Communist Party of Vietnam to put forth wise and flexible policies, helping Vietnam overcome all obstacles and increasingly have more strategic friends. He has led the Vietnamese revolution to develop, step by step firmly into a new stage, gaining more foreign investment cooperation, improving people's lives, and bringing the country to continuous development.

Former General Secretary and President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone affirmed that he had learned a lot from comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, especially in Party building, cadre training, and resolving negative phenomena, especially internal ones. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was very determined against the wrongdoings of some leaders at all levels, determined to completely resolve the problem, even if they were high-ranking leaders. He emphasized that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was a person who devoted himself to the revolutionary cause of Vietnam, exemplary in practical actions and in all fields.

Laos has learned and built the “3 builds” policy, similar to Vietnam, and also built rural development. This shows that the two Parties and two socio-economic systems have similarities, similar basic development, and lessons from Vietnam can be applied in Laos. These are things that the Lao people will never forget.

With a close relationship, former General Secretary and President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone sent his deepest condolences to the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, saying that the Lao people are also deeply saddened by the passing of the General Secretary. He believes that other Vietnamese leaders will continue to preserve, nurture and develop the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, Vietnam and Laos, so that they will last forever and grow.

Previously, on July 19, the Resumen Latinomericano newspaper published an article praising the contributions of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong. Under the title “The Vietnamese people have lost a great leader: Nguyen Phu Trong, a staunch communist soldier”, the left-wing newspaper published an editorial by Resumen Latinomericano Editor-in-Chief Carlos Aznarez, emphasizing that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is one of the great leaders in the country’s construction and of the Communist Party of Vietnam in recent decades.
