(Dan Tri) - Initially, NASA said the entire crew was taken to the medical center for additional testing, but did not say whether all four people or just a few people had problems.
On October 25, shortly after the Dragon Endeavour spacecraft landed, a NASA astronaut was taken to the hospital due to health problems. Previously, the crew had worked for nearly 8 months on the International Space Station (ISS).
The crew consisted of four people, including three NASA astronauts Matthew Dominick, Michael Barrat, Jeanette Epps and one Russian astronaut, Alexander Grebenkin. The flight lasted 235 days, longer than the usual flights to the ISS of only 6 months.
According to NASA, one of their three astronauts was unwell and the entire crew was taken to a hospital in Pensacola, Florida, near where the spacecraft landed. The three healthy astronauts were released from the hospital and returned to Houston.
A NASA representative said "one astronaut remains in the hospital in stable condition under precautionary monitoring" and did not share specific information about the astronaut's health issues.
The Russian space agency Roscosmos posted on Telegram a photo of cosmonaut Grebenkin standing upright and smiling, with the caption "After the space flight and safe landing, cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin feels great!"
The crew returned from a flight that was extended weeks beyond schedule due to two storms that swept through the southeastern United States, near the planned landing site.
After leaving the ISS, the Dragon Endeavour spacecraft took two days to reach Earth’s atmosphere, then parachuted and landed in the Gulf of Mexico. In a news release shortly after the landing, NASA said that “the crew is doing well” and did not mention any problems with the astronauts, but did mention two problems with the spacecraft parachuting down.
The spacecraft's first arresting parachute failed due to debris hitting it, and one of the four parachutes in the second arresting parachute took longer to deploy, said Richard Jones, deputy administrator of NASA's commercial crewed flight program.
However, he also said that the two problems did not affect the safety of the astronauts, and commented that the weather that day was completely favorable.
This is the fifth flight of SpaceX's manned Dragon spacecraft, which is designed to be reused multiple times. It has spent 702 days in space since its first flight.
