Dear Brother Nam!
Striped snakehead fish are not picky about the pond they are raised in. They grow well in ponds, garden ditches, rice fields, etc. However, to raise them effectively, it is necessary to understand the biological characteristics and farming techniques of this fish species.
When preparing to raise fish, it is necessary to drain the water, repair the pond banks, clear the surrounding grass, check the drainage pipes, and kill all miscellaneous fish and pathogens in the pond. Use lime around the banks and bottom of the pond, at a dosage of 10-15 kg/100m2, then dry the pond until it cracks. Organic fertilizer should be used as a base fertilizer for the pond, at a dosage of 15-20 kg/100m2, to create a natural food source for the fish. After fertilizing, dry the pond for 2-3 days and add water to the pond to a depth of 1.2-1.5m. After about 4-5 days, when the water is the color of young banana shoots, start releasing the fish fry. Striped snakehead fish can be raised all year round, but it is best to release them at the beginning of the rainy season. During transportation, it is necessary to pack them with a sparse density to avoid the fish being scratched and losing their slime.
Select fish fry that are uniform in size, healthy, bright in color, without signs of disease, deformities, or deformities. To limit environmental and temperature shock, the bag of fish fry should be dropped into the pond for 10-20 minutes before slowly releasing the fish out, and at the same time, the initial signs of the fish must be observed to have timely solutions. The stocking density is 8-10 fish/m2. Depending on actual conditions, the source of supplementary food can be: pellets, homemade food, etc.
Feed the fish 1-2 times daily at 7-8am and 4-5pm. If the food is fresh, feed it through a feeding screen for easy control. The amount of food given changes according to the month of raising: 10% of the total weight of the fish in the first 2 months, 7% in the 3rd-4th month, 5% in the 5th-6th month and 3% in the following months.
After releasing the fish, you must regularly monitor the water color to adjust the amount of food and fertilizer, observe the fish pond, avoid flooding, pests (frogs, toads, snakes, etc.) to eliminate them. After 8-10 months, when the fish reach a weight of 100-150 g/fish, they can be harvested. In case the fish size in the pond is uneven, use a net to collect them, or collect them all and release the small fish into a new pond.
