Ren said that Huawei often explores why Apple products are so good and how far apart the company is from Apple, adding that “it would not be an exaggeration to call myself an Apple fan.” In fact, Ren expressed his admiration for Apple in a May 2019 interview, describing Apple as “an example we follow in terms of privacy protection.”

Ren’s latest comments reflect his focus on Huawei’s continued technological leadership in specific areas and its focus on developing in-house talent.
