Apple's new Vision Pro glasses may not bring many new features, but they mark a notable change in the manufacturing process.
According to Bloomberg , based on the information on the packaging, the new version of Vision Pro glasses with the new M5 processor and more comfortable strap is assembled in Vietnam. Previously, the original version launched in February 2024 with the M2 processor was originally made in China.
Although the Vision Pro glasses are labeled "made in Vietnam," some accessories like the Dual Knit Band, which includes strips that wrap around the back and top of the head, are still made in China at Luxshare's factory.
It is not yet clear whether production of Vision Pro glasses will be split between Vietnam and China.
While the Vision Pro is one of Apple’s lowest-selling products, the move underscores the company’s shift away from China. Apple still makes the majority of its iPhones in the country, but the bulk of its production for the US market is being shifted elsewhere.
Earlier this year, the company shifted much of its iPhone supply for the US market to India in an attempt to avoid new tariffs on goods made in China.
Previously, Apple also brought the AirPods and Apple Watch production lines to Vietnam, along with some iPad and HomePods models.
Additionally, Bloomberg also revealed that a series of upcoming new Apple smart home devices, including smart displays, home security cameras and desktop robots, will also be manufactured in Vietnam.
