Reuters news agency commented that the White House opened a TikTok account to take advantage of more than 170 million users in the US to convey President Donald Trump's message.
The White House's first video on the account is 27 seconds long, with the caption: "America is back! What's new TikTok?".
As of 8:30 a.m. on August 20 (Vietnam time), the White House TikTok account had more than 34,000 followers.
TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a China-based internet technology company.
US lawmakers are concerned that TikTok user data in the US could fall into the hands of the Chinese government .
Mr. Trump is negotiating for American investors to buy the app from ByteDance.
According to AFP, federal law requires TikTok to be sold, otherwise the platform will be banned in the US for national security reasons.
The law would have taken effect the day before President Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20, 2025.
But Mr Trump - who has used social media extensively during his 2024 presidential campaign and has admitted to liking TikTok - has put the ban on hold.
First, he extended the deadline to early April, then to June 19. In mid-June, Trump gave TikTok another 90 days to find a non-Chinese buyer or the platform would be banned in the US. The deadline is expected to be extended until September 17.
Although he once supported banning TikTok, Mr. Trump has now changed his stance and declared to protect the platform with nearly 2 billion global users, after believing that TikTok helps him attract young voters in the US presidential election in November 2024.
Mr Trump's official account on X (formerly Twitter) has 108.5 million followers, but his preferred social network is Truth Social - a platform he owns, with 10.6 million followers.
The official White House accounts on X and Instagram have 2.4 million and 9.3 million followers, respectively.
