According to information from poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, poet and musician Nguyen Thuy Kha passed away at 10:45 a.m. on March 13 in Hanoi , at the age of 77.
He passed away after a long battle with colon cancer. The family has not yet made an official announcement about the funeral.
Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu said that when he thinks of Nguyen Thuy Kha, he always sees the image of a romantic man passing through this world, walking, writing, singing and playing a guitar, then gently disappearing.
"He was one of those people who lived life to the fullest. He lived the way he wanted, he wrote the way he wanted, and he played the way he wanted. He didn't have to do anything he didn't want to do. He was able to be who he was. That's not easy for most people.
I don't think about ending his life. I think he has finished his wandering in this world and gone to another place with other jobs. That's why his departure does not leave me with a heavy feeling even though from tomorrow there will be no more chance to drink with him, listen to him read poetry and sing," the Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association expressed.
Music researcher Nguyen Quang Long said he was surprised to hear that musician Nguyen Thuy Kha had passed away.
Before Tet, he, musician Giang Son and Xam singer Mai Tuyet Hoa visited musician Nguyen Thuy Kha at the hospital. At that time, the musician smiled and happily said that he was getting better, almost finished a treatment period and was preparing to be discharged.
"We talked a lot with each other. I was happy to have friends who loved and accompanied me during the days of fighting the disease. I also said that the hospital cared for me and created the best conditions for me.
You guys talk a lot about music, about pre-war and revolutionary music stories, about famous musical figures of the time, now I'm probably the only one who knows them all.
Saying goodbye to him on the last night of the year, the three of us told each other to occasionally stop by to chat to make him happy, and promised to visit him after Tet, after Giang Son's live concert. But one after another, one of us went to the province and the other went away. Before we could visit, this afternoon we received the news that he was no longer in this temporary world," Mr. Nguyen Quang Long expressed.
