Musician Nguyen Van Chung is excited about the Vietnam Pickleball Tournament, reveals the reason for being 'lazy' to write sports music

TPO - In an interview with Tien Phong newspaper, musician Nguyen Van Chung - also a "picker" - expressed his excitement about the Vietnam Pickleball Tournament - Hyundai Thanh Cong Cup 2025.

As the "hit king", including the song "Continue writing the story of peace" which has reached more than 5 billion views on social media platforms, musician Nguyen Van Chung is also very passionate about sports . He also plays many sports, from jogging, gym to billiards and especially football.

"I don't seek inspiration for writing music from sports, but sports help me a lot in improving my mood and mental balance," musician Nguyen Van Chung shared with Tien Phong newspaper reporter, "When writing music, I have to think a lot, concentrate highly, leading to fatigue. When playing sports, my body is exercised, the pressure is released and my spirit also becomes lighter. After that, I come back and work better, ready to release the next songs."

After nearly 20 years of persistent musical journey, musician Nguyen Van Chung has composed more than 700 songs, and set a Guinness Vietnam record, becoming the musician who composed the most children's songs, with more than 300 works. However, it is quite surprising that he has very few songs about sports.

Musician Nguyen Van Chung is especially passionate about sports and plays many different sports, from soccer, billiards to jogging and even pickleball.

"Actually, I have written children's songs related to sports, such as playing soccer or swimming. But a song specifically dedicated to sports, I have not, almost none, except for one song written with other musicians," the 8x generation musician said with a laugh.

According to him, composing a sports song, for example about football, is a big challenge. "Every time we go out on the field, the familiar melodies 'Like having Uncle Ho on the great victory day' or 'Oh Vietnam' immediately come up. To create a new and attractive work requires strong emotions, and I really hope that one day I will be inspired enough to compose a song about sports."

Recently, musician Nguyen Van Chung started to get acquainted with and play pickleball. However, with humility, he admitted that he "just knows the basics, still a rookie". From the perspective of someone who plays many different sports, musician Nguyen Van Chung assessed pickleball as "easy to play, easy to approach and highly engaging".

Musician Nguyen Van Chung got acquainted with pickleball a few months ago, adding it to the long list of sports he plays.

"The great thing about pickleball is that you can play it with anyone," he said. "People who are not very good at sports can play it. So I can play with my dad, my kids or my friends, and enjoy fun moments and exciting matches. In my opinion, this is probably the main reason why pickleball has become a trend and is loved by many people."

From July 4 to 6, 2025, at the D-JOY Pickleball Court Complex (61 Nguyen Luong Bang, Tan Phu Ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City), the Vietnam Pickleball Tournament - Hyundai Thanh Cong Cup 2025 will take place with the participation of athletes from all over the country. Musician Nguyen Van Chung is extremely excited about the tournament and is ready to participate if it does not conflict with his already busy work schedule.

"Who knows, maybe on the pickleball field you'll get inspired to write a song about pickleball," I said. Musician Nguyen Van Chung laughed: "It will happen when you have a deep understanding and strong inspiration for this sport."
