Exploiting the potential and advantages of the water surface area of Son La hydroelectric reservoir, Liep Te commune, Thuan Chau district has been encouraging and supporting people to build and develop cage fish farming. This policy has initially brought about stable economic efficiency, helping people to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty and gradually escape from the extremely difficult commune.
Liep Te commune has 14 villages located along the Son La hydroelectric reservoir. Taking advantage of the water surface of the hydroelectric reservoir, in 2016, the commune Party Committee and government mobilized households to develop fish cage farming, starting with a pilot farming of 30 fish cages in the Ban Xa village area.
Mr. Quàng Văn Chỏm - Ban Xa Village, Liếp Tè Commune, Thuận Châu, Sơn La: ( My family also learned from the villagers about raising fish in cages. Since the beginning of this year, we have been able to raise 2 cages, each with 2,500 fish. In the future, I will develop the efficiency even further.)
In order to raise fish in cages stably and sustainably, Liep Te commune has established an Aquaculture Advisory Group to directly support and advise fish-raising households in linking with units and businesses to consume products. In 2020, the Da Son La River Fish Cooperative was established, fish farming followed the correct procedures, ensuring food safety conditions and forming a link to consume products.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thanh - Song Da Son La Fish Cooperative, Liep Te Commune, Thuan Chau, Son La: ( My family has 10 fish cages, each year the output is about 20 tons of perch and catfish, each year the average income is more than 200 million. We find it more effective than raising privately in terms of guaranteed food sources and stable output.)
From 30 fish cages at the time of establishment, up to now, Song Da Son La Fish Cooperative has expanded the fish cage farming model to 95 cages raising various types of fish: Tilapia, grass carp, black carp, common carp, catfish, red tilapia... Since the beginning of the year, the Cooperative has sold over 80 tons of commercial fish, with revenue reaching nearly 700 million VND.

Members coming to the Cooperative have many connections, such as support in the issues they care for and connecting some members to move towards a model that can be widely developed outside.)

The Resolution of the 21st Congress, term 2020-2025 of the Liep Te Commune Party Committee determined that cage fish farming would become a key economic sector of the commune. After more than 4 years of implementing the Resolution, the commune now has 695 fish cages, with the output of commercial fish sold to the market reaching over 100 tons/year. The cage fish farming model is increasingly being replicated, contributing to promoting the development of the local economy.
