According to statistics from the Digital Transformation Department, Department of Science and Technology of the province, due to the impact of storm No. 11, as of 10:00 a.m. on October 8, 2025, in the province, there were 167 BTS stations of Viettel, VNPT and Mobifone networks that lost contact in the old districts of Huu Lung, Trang Dinh and Binh Gia.
Ms. Trinh Thi Nga, Deputy Head of the Digital Transformation Department, Department of Science and Technology, said: Even before storm No. 11 made landfall, the department advised the department to direct telecommunications enterprises and units in the area to mobilize maximum human resources and equipment and deploy 24/24-hour on-call; focusing on reinforcing station houses, high masts, antenna masts of radio transmitters, radio receivers, transmission systems and peripheral networks that are likely to be affected. When the storm affects the province, the unit regularly monitors, updates information and directs telecommunications units to quickly fix the problem.
According to statistics from Viettel Lang Son, as of 10 a.m. on October 8, storm No. 11 has caused many BTS stations of the unit to lose contact. Viettel Lang Son's leadership has been present in the localities with high risk of being affected to directly grasp the situation and direct troubleshooting.
Mr. Bui Dinh Khoa, Director of Viettel Lang Son said: The communication system in many communes such as Van Nham, Huu Lung, Chi Lang, Binh Gia had problems due to flooding and landslides. About 70 BTS stations lost power, isolated and affected people's communication. The unit mobilized maximum human resources to the incident areas to fix the problem. Before that, the unit proactively stored fuel and generators at stations at high risk of being affected.
Mr. Trinh Van Hien, Director of Viettel Huu Lung cluster, said: In the area managed by the unit, 4 BTS stations were completely flooded, 18 stations were isolated. Faced with the above situation, since October 7, the unit has mobilized nearly 70 people to participate in troubleshooting and operating generators at the stations. In addition, we coordinated with local authorities and local forces to transport materials and equipment to troubleshoot. In addition, the unit has mobilized 3 starlink devices (which can receive and transmit signals from connecting to satellites, helping to connect information and internet without depending on fiber optic cables or mobile networks) in the areas of Van Nham and Yen Binh communes.
With the urgent intervention, by 1:00 p.m. on October 8, only 6 BTS stations of Viettel Lang Son in the old Huu Lung district were isolated.
Along with Viettel Lang Son, 70 BTS stations of VNPT Lang Son were affected by storm No. 11. From October 7 to now, the unit has been urgently deploying solutions to overcome the above problems. Mr. Do Tran Anh, Deputy Director of VNPT Lang Son said: The unit is mobilizing forces to focus on handling incidents in the areas of Huu Lung, That Khe, Binh Gia, and Bac Son communes. In particular, we focus on reviewing the backbone cable system and information cables to people's homes to be able to specifically review the extent of damage. In addition, the unit has deployed network roaming (sharing resources with other network operators) to ensure communication for people.
Currently, VNPT Lang Son continues to deploy solutions to quickly resume operations of BTS stations. At the same time, it is reviewing and calculating the extent of damage to find solutions. In addition, 9 Mobifone BTS stations in Huu Lung are also being repaired by the unit.
Timely response solutions from authorities and telecommunications businesses in the area have contributed to speeding up the progress of overcoming communication problems caused by storm No. 11.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khang, Khac Deng village, That Khe commune said: On October 7, the storm caused severe flooding here, greatly affecting the daily life of the people. However, our basic communication was still guaranteed. Thanks to that, we were still able to promptly exchange and update the situation of the storm's impact with our relatives and friends to reassure them. At the same time, the smooth communication helped us to still be able to handle work requests relatively smoothly.
According to the leaders of telecommunications enterprises in the province, currently, the units continue to review and fully count the incident points and households with interrupted communication. From there, immediately after the water recedes, the units will urgently support households to repair and replace damaged equipment, contributing to quickly stabilizing communication for households.
