The event is part of activities to enhance cooperation between Da Nang City and Japanese localities and organizations, in the context that the City is entering a new development phase, after merging with Quang Nam province.
At the conference, delegates focused on discussing two key topics: Promoting investment and enhancing cooperation in science and technology, innovation; promoting local-level cooperation and tourism development between Da Nang and Japan.
Speaking at the conference, Ms. Lam Thi Thanh Phuong, Deputy Director of the Northeast Asia Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "With outstanding advantages in infrastructure, geographical location, quality of human resources and transparent investment environment, Da Nang City is increasingly affirming its position in Vietnam-Japan cooperation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs pledges to continue supporting localities, including Da Nang, to expand connections and effectively implement cooperation initiatives with Japan."
Mr. Ito Naoki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, highly appreciated the city's potential and capacity to receive investment. "Recently, the direct flight between Osaka and Da Nang was resumed, which is a big step forward in promoting people-to-people, cultural and trade exchanges between the two sides. With the establishment of the Da Nang free trade zone, investment in Da Nang will be promoted and the city's economy will develop further in the coming time," the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam emphasized.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, said that with the orientation of developing high-tech, innovation and high-quality tourism sectors, along with its strategic location and synchronous infrastructure, Da Nang is becoming a leading center for attracting investment from Japan.
Currently, Da Nang City has established friendly relations and implemented cooperation programs with more than 22 provinces and cities of Japan. In particular, it has signed a memorandum of understanding to establish friendly relations and official cooperation with 6 cities including: Kawasaki, Sakai, Yokohama, Kisarazu, Nagasaki and Kinokawa.
In terms of economic cooperation, Japan is the leading country in terms of registered investment capital in the city with more than 1.14 billion USD from 261 projects. In addition, Japan is the country with the highest FDI capital among foreign investors in Da Nang high-tech parks and industrial parks with 49 projects with a total investment capital of 695.9 million USD.
Regarding tourism, Japan has always been a traditional and stable tourist market for Vietnam in general and Da Nang in particular. Notably, in 2024, the number of Japanese visitors to Da Nang increased nearly 3 times compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 179,000 arrivals. These positive figures show great potential for Da Nang and Japan to continue promoting cooperation and tourism development in the coming time.
"Da Nang City is shaping a modern and sustainable development ecosystem, focusing on strategic institutions such as free trade zones, international financial centers, high-tech zones, open economic zones and concentrated information technology zones. Promoting the specific mechanisms and policies assigned by the central government, along with an open and favorable investment environment, Da Nang is ready to become a reliable destination for cooperation initiatives from localities and Japanese partners," affirmed the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee.
