The beach in Tan Thanh block (Hoi An Tay ward) - where many tourist facilities are concentrated along Hoi An beach - is seriously eroding. Many sections of the wave "eat" deep into the shore, the beach is only a few meters away from tourist areas and shops.
According to locals, this place constantly suffers from big waves, especially during the rainy and stormy season.
To limit landslides, people have erected bamboo poles and sandbags at the foot of the rows of shops. However, the shop owners said this was only a “temporary solution”.
Mr. Le Kim - owner of a business here - pointed to the section of coastline that was eroded by the waves and said: "Before, my shop extended out to the sea, but now it has to be moved further in. The breakwaters that people built for a while were destroyed again. I don't know how much longer the current breakwaters will last."
Sharing the same concern, Mr. Phung Tan Luc - owner of a nearby restaurant - said that during the storm season, the sea is rough, the waves sometimes reach up to the restaurant.
“Currently, many sections of the shore have been eroded by the waves, forming a frog’s jaw a few meters away from my shop. Every time it rains or is windy, I fear the waves will destroy the shop,” said Mr. Luc.

Not only the shops, many poplar trees that used to be “sea wind shields” have now been uprooted. The remaining stumps are bare, their roots protruding from the sand. In the deep erosion sections, the ground has been gouged into a frog’s jaw, creating a cliff right next to the tourist path.
According to Hoi An Tay ward (Da Nang city), due to the impact of strong winds and big waves from July 28 to 29, the coastal area in Tan Thanh block continued to experience landslides, the area of landslides is outside the area where people have reinforced the embankment. The landslide is going deep inside and creating a vertical wall with a height of 4-5m adjacent to the business area of the people.
Currently, the authorities of Hoi An Tay ward (Da Nang city) have put up warning signs and barriers to prevent people and tourists from approaching dangerous landslide sites. At the same time, the authorities regularly monitor the landslide developments to promptly deploy response measures such as mobilizing forces to reinforce or evacuate people when the situation becomes complicated.
Previously, at the end of 2024, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province issued a decision to declare an emergency situation regarding landslides at Cam An beach, passing through Tan Thanh block.
