Infectious diseases transmitted through the respiratory and digestive tracts
Children aged 11-15 years old with measles increased
According to the Department of Disease Prevention, Ministry of Health , in week 17 (from April 19 to April 25), the country recorded 3,942 suspected measles cases, down 4.3% compared to the previous week (4,122 cases). Since the beginning of 2025, the country has recorded 81,691 suspected measles cases in 63 provinces and cities. Compared to the time with the highest number of cases in the week, the number of cases recorded in the week has decreased by 30%.
In 2025, the number of cases tends to increase from week 9 (the period after Tet) and starts to decrease in weeks 15 to 17. Most of the provinces with increasing cases are in the Northern region.
In particular, the age of the disease has changed by age group after the recent measles vaccination campaign. Specifically, compared to the first 3 months of 2025, the group from 1 to 10 years old (accounting for 65.8%) decreased by 1.6%; the group under 1 year old (accounting for 2.9%) decreased by 0.2% (including children under 6 months old who are not indicated for measles vaccination); the group over 10 years old (accounting for 31.3%) increased by 1.8%, of which the group from 11 to 15 years old accounted for 15.8% and the group over 16 years old accounted for 13.7%.
To effectively respond to the measles epidemic, on April 26, the Ministry of Health issued Official Dispatch No. 2513/BYT-PB to the People's Committees of provinces and cities, the Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology, and the Pasteur Institute, directing the Departments of Health of provinces and cities to urge the acceleration of the 3rd measles vaccination campaign in 2025, completing the first vaccination before April 30, and the second vaccination before May 15.
At the same time, promote propaganda and update information on the epidemic situation and disease prevention recommendations to the people. For medical examination and treatment facilities, it is necessary to effectively carry out patient triage, admission, treatment and infection control.

Many diseases tend to increase locally.
According to the Ministry of Health, not only measles, the infectious disease situation in the world is still complicated, in which, some diseases with vaccines such as whooping cough, dengue fever, malaria, influenza A (H5N1) ... continue to appear in many places, even outbreaks in some places.
Domestically, there have also been recorded cases of influenza A (H5N1) in humans; some endemic diseases such as dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease have begun to increase locally in some localities.
The Ministry of Health believes that the upcoming summer with hot and humid weather and heavy rain will create favorable conditions for diseases to arise and develop, especially diseases transmitted through the digestive tract, respiratory tract, and mosquito-borne diseases, especially during the peak summer tourist season of 2025 when people's travel needs increase.
Proactive disease prevention
To proactively prevent and combat summer epidemics, the Ministry of Health recommends that the People's Committees of provinces and cities mobilize departments, branches, and socio-political organizations to coordinate with the health sector to effectively implement epidemic prevention and control activities and expanded vaccination work, strengthen screening and management, and not miss out on vaccination subjects.
Allocate funding and ensure resources from local budgets to implement activities to prevent and control infectious diseases and expand immunization work in 2025, including budget to implement the measles vaccination plan.
Develop and deploy specific plans, ready to respond to epidemic situations in the area during the summer, on major holidays and important historical events of the country in 2025, most recently on the occasion of the Southern Liberation Day, National Reunification Day April 30, International Labor Day May 1 and the peak summer tourism season in 2025...
Organize inspection and supervision of epidemic prevention and control implementation, focusing on areas with recorded cases, areas at risk of outbreaks, and localities that have not managed vaccination targets well or have low vaccination rates; at the same time, proactively direct and support lower levels in epidemic prevention and control.
Ensure smooth operations, without interruptions affecting disease prevention and control and expanded immunization after merging and consolidating medical units at all levels.
Before and during the reorganization of the apparatus, documents and databases on infectious diseases, epidemic prevention and control, and expanded immunization must continue to be preserved and stored in accordance with regulations and must not be damaged or lost during the reorganization process.
Direct the Department of Education and Training to organize and implement disease prevention and control activities at educational institutions, especially kindergartens, preschools, and nurseries; implement school communication on disease prevention and control and vaccination; perform well in school health work, promptly detect suspected cases of infectious diseases and notify medical facilities for timely coordination and handling; effectively coordinate and implement vaccination campaigns at educational institutions...
For the institutes of hygiene and epidemiology, the Pasteur Institute and the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology are the focal points to coordinate with the institutes to immediately allocate measles vaccines to provinces and cities to implement vaccination for target groups in the third phase of 2025, ensuring timely coordination and allocation of vaccines among provinces and cities and regularly monitoring and supporting localities in organizing the implementation.
