(34 years old, residing in Hoan Kiem district), received a message via the Messenger application announcing his winning, along with a link to a website with an interface identical to the official MoMo application.
After downloading the app and logging in, Mr. H. was invited to join the “MoMo Pro investment fund” system with the promise of high profits. Believing the words, the victim transferred money 3 times with a total amount of 330 million VND. However, when withdrawing money, the system reported an error and asked for an additional deposit of the same amount. Noticing unusual signs, Mr. H. went to the police station to report.
Mr. Thai Tri Hung, Chief Technology Officer of MoMo, affirmed: “MoMo does not have any application named 'MoMo Pro'. Users need to be vigilant against fake applications and absolutely do not provide personal information, passwords, OTP codes to anyone”. Mr. Hung also emphasized that the prevention, anti-phishing It is not only the responsibility of businesses but also requires high coordination and awareness from the community.
At the same time, the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) also issued a warning about the impersonation of electricity industry employees to commit fraud over the phone. The subjects illegally copied the content, logo, and hotline number of EVNNPC, then encouraged customers to call 1900.0317 with a fee many times higher than the official rate.
In addition to financial losses, this form also poses a risk of stealing personal information and banking data of customers. EVNNPC affirms that it has no relation to the above fake phone number and website, and recommends that people only transact and contact through official channels.
Also in May, the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) also issued a warning about the appearance of many fake fanpages and websites that aim to scam people under the guise of charity programs or selling BIBs.
BIDV affirms that the bank's charitable activities are free of charge, does not accept donations, does not organize fundraising or sell products in any form. The bank recommends that people do not transfer money or provide personal information or bank accounts through unofficial channels.
