Three days submerged in floodwaters after storm Matmo, many businesses and enterprises in Thai Nguyen suffered damage to goods and equipment... from several billion to tens of billions of dong.
According to preliminary statistics, since October 7, Thai Nguyen province has recorded 50 communes affected by storm Matmo, many areas are in the severe landslide warning zone.
In terms of agriculture , nearly 5,000 hectares of crops were affected, and livestock losses were many times greater than those caused by Typhoon Yagi. Total losses in the province were estimated at over VND3,000 billion. Flooding also caused difficulties for more than 320,000 households in Thai Nguyen due to power outages.
To date, Thai Nguyen Electricity has restored power to about 260,000 customers. Thus, about 11-12% of customers still have no power due to many areas being deeply flooded and difficult to access.
In addition to businesses and households suffering direct damage, insurance companies are also affected as the number of compensation claims increases sharply after consecutive natural disasters.
As of October 8, Bao Viet Insurance recorded 372 losses, estimated to have compensated VND119 billion due to storms Bualoi and Matmo. Of these, property, construction and motor vehicle insurance were the most heavily impacted.
Similarly, PVI Insurance said that as of October 9, the company had received 130 motor vehicle losses, estimated at over VND5 billion in damages due to Typhoon Matmo. Previously, during Typhoon Bualoi, they also recorded 150 losses and there may be more. The losses include factories, machinery, goods and business interruptions... with compensation reserves of nearly VND850 billion.
