Phan Boi Chau (1867-1940) whose birth name was Phan Van San, his pen name was Sao Nam, was born into a family with a Confucian tradition in Dan Nhiem village, Xuan Hoa commune, Nam Dan district (now Van An commune), Nghe An province. With his enthusiasm and noble ideals, Phan Boi Chau traveled and worked from north to south, founded and led many patriotic organizations and movements such as "Duy Tan Association" (1904), Dong Du movement (1905), "Viet Nam Quang Phuc Association"... From a patriotic feudal intellectual, Phan Boi Chau became a bourgeois democratic revolutionary and stepped into the threshold of the proletarian revolution.

After many years of patriotic activities, in 1925, Phan Boi Chau was arrested by the French colonialists in Shanghai (China) and imprisoned in Hanoi . Under pressure from the people's struggle movement across the country, the French colonialists had to pardon and detain Phan in Hue. During his 15 years in Hue, Phan Boi Chau lived a simple and harmonious life surrounded by the love of the people of Hue and was affectionately called "Old Man Ben Ngu" by the people.
Although living in a "fish in a bowl, bird in a cage" situation, Mr. Phan still inspired, fueled and awakened the spirit of patriotism and sense of responsibility to all classes of people, especially the youth and students such as comrade Nguyen Chi Dieu, General Secretary Le Duan, General Vo Nguyen Giap... On October 29, 1940, Mr. Phan Boi Chau breathed his last at the thatched house on Ben Ngu slope.

According to the Hue City History Museum, the organization of the program commemorating the 85th anniversary of Phan Boi Chau's death and the activities to celebrate Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day is a series of extremely meaningful activities, helping us connect the past and the present, between noble ideals and today's actions; recognizing the noble contributions of organizations and individuals with passion for the cause of preserving, conserving and promoting the values of the nation's cultural heritage.
Director of Hue City History Museum, Mr. Nguyen Duc Loc said that Hue is where Phan Boi Chau lived and worked during the last years of his life. On October 29, 1940, patriot Phan Boi Chau breathed his last breath at the thatched house on Ben Ngu slope. Phan Boi Chau's life and patriotic activities are a symbol of a bright patriotism, a loyal heart, and devotion to the country and mountains.

The year 2025 marks the 85th anniversary of the death of patriot Phan Boi Chau - one of the shining examples of patriotism, intelligence and bravery of a patriot, a driving force for generations of Vietnamese patriots, especially the younger generations. Mr. Phan is considered the soul of the national liberation movement in the early 20th century.
Over the years, the Museum of History has made constant efforts in researching, collecting, displaying, restoring and promoting the value of historical and cultural relics in Hue city in general and the Phan Boi Chau memorial house in particular. With its profound historical and humanistic values, the Phan Boi Chau memorial house at 119 Phan Boi Chau street, Thuan Hoa ward, Hue city has become a proud "red address" - a place to preserve the memory of a staunch patriot.

Nowadays, the relic is not only a familiar destination for people and domestic and international tourists when visiting Hue, but also a valuable traditional educational space, attracting a large number of students to visit, learn, study and pay tribute to the noble values of Phan Boi Chau.
In order to express the remembrance and gratitude for the great contributions and contributions of Mr. Phan in the patriotic struggle in the early 20th century and to spread the noble values of Mr. Phan to the younger generations, the Museum of History has coordinated with Phan Sao Nam Secondary School to organize the experiential and practical activity "Phan Boi Chau's Heritage - through sketches of students of Phan Sao Nam Secondary School" by the students.

The simple but sincere paintings of the students are proof that the value and beauty of heritage does not “stand still”; heritage only truly lives when it is received, felt and recreated by the souls of the next generation. In each stroke and color, we see the respect, pride and emotion of the students.
After the anniversary, the student's works are being preserved and displayed at the Museum and will continue to be displayed at the Phan Boi Chau memorial site in the following events, in order to continue spreading educational values, arousing love for history, love for cultural heritage in general and Phan Boi Chau's heritage in particular.
