DTO - From the beginning of 2023 to now, the Red Cross Associations at all levels in Thanh Binh district have stepped up the implementation and care for and support the lives of the poor, near-poor, victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, and people with disabilities through activities of giving gifts, necessities, and supporting the construction of charity houses; maintaining the implementation of the Campaign "Each organization, each individual is associated with a humanitarian address", the movement "Charitable Tet"... Thereby, helping the poor have more conditions to stabilize their lives.

The Thanh Binh District Red Cross Society always focuses on consolidating and building a strong organization. The district currently has 17 grassroots Red Cross societies, with 1,467 members and 1,358 Red Cross volunteers. All levels of the Red Cross Society, members and volunteers actively respond, participate in contributing working days and mobilize resources together with local authorities and socio -political organizations to carry out many practical projects and tasks for the community such as: building and repairing bridges and rural roads, building charity houses for poor households and households in especially difficult circumstances in the district.

Since the beginning of 2023, the Red Cross Associations at all levels in Thanh Binh district have carried out many community activities such as mobilizing the construction of 42 charity houses, repairing 2 rural bridges, and 1km of rural roads, with a total value of over 3.6 billion VND. The Red Cross Associations of communes and towns have coordinated with the District Red Cross Association and members of the District Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee to promote propaganda and mobilize people to participate in voluntary blood donation; coordinate to mobilize and successfully organize voluntary blood donation sessions. As a result, since the beginning of 2023, the whole district has received 320 units of blood, promptly supplementing the blood supply to the blood bank, serving well the emergency and treatment work for patients in need of blood transfusion.

In addition, the Thanh Binh District Red Cross Society, together with local Red Cross Associations, has deployed and implemented movements and campaigns to support the poor. Typically, in the "Humane Tet" movement, the Red Cross Associations at all levels have mobilized organizations and individuals to help nearly 5,400 poor households, with a total value of more than 1.5 billion VND; in the "Each organization, each individual is associated with a humanitarian address" campaign, the Red Cross Associations at all levels in the district have conducted surveys and created profiles of people in difficult circumstances who need help and mobilized benefactors to support gifts and necessities for more than 1,200 people with a total value of over 1.3 billion VND.

In particular, the District Red Cross Society launched a campaign to mobilize resources for the implementation of the Humanitarian Month in 2023. As a result, the District Red Cross Society mobilized organizations, individuals, and benefactors to support food, foodstuffs, and essential necessities to more than 4,700 poor households, with a total value of more than 2.1 billion VND. At the same time, the District Red Cross Society also mobilized the donation of 52 wheelchairs, 9 wheelchairs, nearly 1,900 health insurance cards, 300 gifts, 3 sets of corrugated iron for house construction... to people in difficult circumstances, the disabled, the blind, and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin.

In Tan Hue commune, Thanh Binh district, Mr. Le Minh Mat - Chairman of the Red Cross Society of Tan Hue commune, said: “The Red Cross Society of the commune has always promoted the work of mobilizing resources to implement many activities to support the poor. From the beginning of 2023 to now, the Society has mobilized to donate 1,356 gifts; mobilized 4 benefactors to maintain regular support for 90 poor households, households in difficult circumstances and donated many gifts to people with disabilities and lonely elderly people. At the same time, coordinating with the Fatherland Front Committee and socio-political organizations of the commune, mobilized to donate 8,900 kg of rice, necessities, built 9 charity houses (each house supported from 20 - 30 million VND) for poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households in the commune. Through these activities, it has contributed to helping many poor households overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives".

For example, the case of Ms. Nguyen Thi My Tien (born in 1986) residing in Tan Binh Ha hamlet, Tan Hue commune, is a household in difficult circumstances, with income mainly based on hired work, so the family's life is quite precarious. Ms. Tien's temporary house has been degraded for many years, but she cannot afford to build a new house. Recently, the Red Cross Society of the commune coordinated with the Commune Fatherland Front Committee and socio-political organizations of the commune to mobilize support for Ms. Tien with 25 million VND to build a charity house. Ms. Tien added her family's savings and was able to build a new house with an area of 32 square meters, a wooden frame, corrugated iron walls, corrugated iron roof, and tiled floor. The new house helps Ms. Tien's family reduce housing difficulties and has more motivation to strive to improve in life.

In the coming time, the Red Cross Association at all levels in the district will continue to pay attention to developing Red Cross members and volunteers to build an increasingly strong organization. Promote the mobilization of organizations, units, individuals and businesses to support the implementation of support activities and projects to create livelihoods for poor, near-poor, disadvantaged households, disabled and lonely people in the locality, helping people stabilize their lives.
