Many racing car models are discounted to clear inventory, which car brand do Vietnamese people buy the most?

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên13/10/2023

Many car models are being "heavily discounted" by manufacturers and distributors to clear inventory, helping to increase purchasing power, including domestically assembled popular cars of Korean and Japanese brands... which were the most chosen by Vietnamese people in September 2023.

Right after the month of Ngau, the Vietnamese automobile market began to show positive signs. The efforts of manufacturers and auto distributors to reduce prices and clear inventory, combined with the preferential registration fee policy that is still in effect, helped the automobile market regain momentum in sales growth in September 2023.

September is also the end of the third sales quarter of 2023, so to limit the risk of holding inventory, many dealers have strongly discounted a series of special car models manufactured in 2022 through many forms with a total value of up to hundreds of millions of VND. In addition, people's "psychology" of buying cars has been "untied" after the 7th lunar month... car consumption in the market in September 2023 has increased.

Sales figures recently announced by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) show that in September 2023, total car sales of VAMA members reached 25,375 vehicles, an increase of 13%, equivalent to nearly 2,835 vehicles compared to August 2023. In the context of VinFast changing the time of announcing sales results from monthly to quarterly, including Hyundai's car sales, the total number of new cars sold in Vietnam in September 2023 reached 31,352 vehicles, an increase of 5,667 vehicles, equivalent to 18% compared to August 2023.

According to data compiled by Thanh Nien from sales reports of VAMA and TC Motor - the unit assembling and distributing Hyundai cars in Vietnam, similar to previous months, in August 2023, Korean and Japanese car models priced under 900 million VND with preferential registration fees, discounts... were the most chosen by Vietnamese people.

Of which, Hyundai led the market with 5,977 vehicles sold (including commercial vehicles), an increase of nearly 2,900 vehicles compared to August 2023. The car lines of this brand that are most favored and purchased by customers are mainly B-class models such as Hyundai Accent (1,711 vehicles), Hyundai Creta (959 vehicles). This result helped Hyundai surpass Toyota to take the lead in the market.

For Toyota, the addition of new models such as Yaris Cross... helps the Japanese car company increase its competitiveness. However, the decline of Toyota Corolla Cross prevented the Japanese car company from making a breakthrough even though Vios has regained its growth momentum. At the end of September 2023, Toyota sold 4,118 cars, an increase of only nearly 200 cars compared to August 2023.

Kia ranked 3rd thanks to the stable performance of the urban SUV duo Kia Sonet and Seltos, which contributed significantly to the sales of nearly 3,800 Kia vehicles in September 2023. Only less than 200 vehicles behind Kia, Mazda continued to rank 4th with 3,610 vehicles sold, of which Mazda CX-5 contributed the most with more than 2,000 vehicles, while continuing to hold the leading position in the Top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam in September 2023. This is also the only model in the Vietnamese car market that sold more than 2,000 vehicles last month. The timely improvements and quite competitive pricing strategy launched by THACO have helped CX-5 attract car consumers.

The following positions did not change compared to the previous month, still belonging to Ford (3,118 cars sold) and two Japanese car brands, Mitsubishi (2,863 cars) and Honda (2,554 cars). Meanwhile, at the bottom of the list of 10 best-selling car brands in Vietnam, the absence of VinFast allowed Isuzu to "squeeze" into this list with 678 cars sold, 9 cars lower than the previous month.
