Many schools change 2025 enrollment plan

From 2025, candidates will have up to 36 ways to choose high school graduation exam subjects in addition to the two compulsory subjects of Math and Literature. To adapt to the innovation in the number of exam subjects and exam formats, many universities have adjusted the admission combinations with some new admission combinations being introduced.

National Economics University plans to maintain 3 stable admission methods, including: direct admission (2%); combined admission (83%) and admission based on high school graduation exam results (15%). With the method of using the 2025 high school graduation exam results, National Economics University will only use 4 combinations: A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, English), D01 (Math, Literature, English) and D07 (Math, Chemistry, English) instead of 9 combinations as in 2024.

The University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) plans to enroll students by 3 admission methods: Direct admission; admission based on the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's Competency Assessment Exam; admission based on the results of the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. The new point is that the school uses 4 subject combinations for admission applicable to all majors/specializations, all admission methods, including: Math - English - Literature, Math - English - Physics, Math - English - Informatics, Math - English - Economic and LegalEducation . Thus, the school plans to remove the 2 combinations of Math - Physics - Chemistry (A00) and Math - English - Chemistry (D07), replacing them with the new combination: Math - English - Informatics; Math - English - Economic and Legal Education. In the 2 new combinations, the school uses 2 new subjects of the 2018 General Education program: Informatics, Economic and Legal Education.

According to the school's explanation, the 2025 enrollment plan is designed to select excellent candidates, ensuring input quality that is suitable for the school's training requirements and meets the strict demands of the labor market. The school will announce the detailed 2025 enrollment plan before February 2025. In case the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and Ho Chi Minh City National University issue new enrollment regulations, the school will update and adjust the enrollment plan in accordance with the regulations.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade plans to consider recruiting a number of new combinations in the 2025 enrollment season, including group C. The added combinations are C00 (Literature, History, Geography); C01 (Literature, Mathematics, Physics); C02 (Literature, Mathematics, Chemistry); C14 (Math, Literature, Economic and Legal Education).

Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education will adjust the combinations that are no longer suitable, such as eliminating combinations with natural science and social science exams, adding new combinations with subjects of economic and legal education, information technology, technology, etc.

The fact that schools add or remove some admission combinations while still maintaining the admission combinations of 2024 to match the high school graduation exam subjects but still maintain stability so that candidates can prepare mentally and carefully consider the decision to choose the optional exam subject. In particular, candidates in group C are usually at a disadvantage compared to candidates in other groups in choosing schools and majors, this year, some schools have paid attention to adjusting to create opportunities for candidates with a foundation in group C to access many different professions such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade.

In particular, the subject of Economic and Legal Education appeared for the first time in the high school graduation exam, but it was noted that there were many different students choosing it. A survey at Quan Son High School (Thanh Hoa) showed that students mainly chose History, Geography and the most was Economic and Legal Education. Very few students registered for the subject of Information Technology.

Similarly, a survey of high schools and vocational education and continuing education centers in Bac Lieu province at the end of October showed that the majority of students chose the social science exam (more than 60%), while the rest chose natural science subjects. Notably, among the subjects chosen by students, foreign languages accounted for the least number, while two new subjects, Information Technology and Technology, had not been chosen by students.

The early announcement of the admission combination by schools will be decisive in the choice of high school graduation exam subjects for many candidates who wish to apply for university admission based on their graduation exam results. On the contrary, for candidates who plan to enter university using other admission methods such as admission combined with certificates, transcripts, etc., choosing which subjects to take will be less of a "headache". Especially in the context of many universities gradually reducing the admission quota based on graduation exam results, increasing the admission rate by separate exams, candidates need to pay special attention to have additional preparations to increase their chances of entering their favorite university.
