Develop capacity

At the age of 37, Nguyen Thanh Phuong (Xo Dang ethnic group) has been elected as Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Nam commune for nearly 2 terms. At the time Nguyen Thanh Phuong was elected as Chairman of the People's Committee, the percentage of poor households in Tra Nam was the majority. Difficult economic conditions, combined with difficult roads, caused Tra Nam to "mark time" for quite a long time.

Having to find a solution, Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune Nguyen Thanh Phuong could not sit still, especially when looking at the neighboring commune of Tra Linh, which is developing day by day thanks to Ngoc Linh ginseng and medicinal herbs.

“At that time, I thought that people living in areas with forests and rich natural conditions could not remain poor forever. We had to find ways to develop the economy for people from the available products of the region. Starting with transforming the model of growing medicinal plants under the forest canopy.

More than 10 years ago, Ngoc Linh ginseng started to have a high price. Seizing this opportunity, the commune leaders held many meetings and then agreed to transplant Ngoc Linh ginseng seeds to grow in Tra Nam forest. Unexpectedly, it brought initial results" - Nguyen Thanh Phuong said.

The report of Tra Nam Commune People's Committee shows that up to now, there are more than 700 households growing ginseng in the area, with more than 300 hectares. Not to mention, there are also gardens growing medicinal plants and other fruit trees.

These marks, in addition to the efforts of the people, also have the participation and thinking of changing farming methods of local leaders, especially the role of Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune Nguyen Thanh Phuong. After many years of dedication, Nguyen Thanh Phuong was transferred to be Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Van commune, a difficult area of Nam Tra My.
