Kidnappers release Liverpool striker's father

The ELN armed group released the father of Liverpool striker Luis Diaz this morning (November 10). Coach Jurgen Klopp confirmed the news and said the Colombian player was very happy to have relieved a huge psychological burden.

Luis Diaz’s father was kidnapped on October 28 in his hometown during an armed attack by Colombian rebels. Local authorities launched a massive search, even offering a reward of nearly $50,000 for information on his whereabouts.

Luis Diaz's father received medical attention as soon as the kidnappers were freed and left.

Luis Diaz immediately returned to the area to work with local authorities to contact and convince the armed group to release the man. In response, the rebels promised not to harm the Liverpool striker's father and would release him if certain conditions were met to ensure his safety.

After unsuccessful attempts to negotiate with the terrorist organization, Luis Diaz returned to England to carry out his mission with Liverpool FC. He was brought on in the 83rd minute of the match against Luton Town and scored the equalizer in injury time to help the team earn 1 point.

"I beg you to release him, keep him whole and end this painful wait as soon as possible," Luis Diaz shared on social media after Liverpool's match last night.

Last night, the player continued to play for Liverpool. He started when the Premier League team lost to Toulouse in the Europa League. After the match, Luis Diaz will return to Colombia to bring his father home, nearly 2 weeks after he was kidnapped.
