40 students hospitalized after boarding meal: Continue to suspend female vice principal

Regarding the case of 40 students hospitalized due to suspected poisoning after breakfast at a boarding school, the People's Committee of Kim Ngan commune ( Quang Tri province) has just decided to extend the temporary suspension of Ms. D.THH - Vice Principal of Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, where the incident occurred.

According to the decision, Ms. D.THH will continue to be temporarily suspended from work for 15 days, starting from October 23. The extension of the suspension period was made because many parents have not agreed to let Ms. H. return to work, while the case is still being investigated by the authorities and there is no official conclusion.

As reported by VTC News, on September 26, many students at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities experienced symptoms of nausea and stomachache after eating breakfast with cakes provided by the school.

Immediately after the incident, Kim Thuy commune authorities coordinated with teachers and parents to quickly take the students to medical facilities for examination and treatment. Of the 75 students with suspected poisoning symptoms, 40 had to be hospitalized, while the remaining 35 were monitored locally.

According to the test results of the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang, out of 4 food samples tested, 1 food sample tested positive for Bacillus cereus, a common bacteria in soil, dust, water and food, which can cause vomiting, nausea, and abdominal pain, especially when cooked food is left for a long time. This bacteria often causes poisoning if cooked food is left for a long time.

Regarding the incident, public opinion in Quang Tri was also stirred up by a clip of more than 40 seconds long circulating on social media, recording the scene where Ms. D.THH - Vice Principal of Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, allegedly prevented the student from being taken to the hospital, despite the request of medical staff. The incident became even more noisy when the clip filmed at the school's medical room spread on social media.

On the afternoon of October 1, leaders of the Department of Education and Training, Kim Ngan commune government and the Board of Directors of Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities also had a meeting with all parents about the incident and other issues regarding boarding meals and Ms. D.THH, Vice Principal of the school.

At the meeting, most parents firmly requested that the competent authorities immediately suspend Ms. D.THH from work. At the same time, they requested that the school change the food supplier and replace the catering staff.
