Ticket booking system Travelata.ru said tour sales increased by 9% in 1 month and increased many times compared to the same period last year.
In terms of hotel bookings, Vietnam has emerged as the fastest growing destination and is now on track to recover to pre-pandemic demand levels, surpassing Thailand.
According to calculations by Travelata.ru, demand for group tours to Vietnam in February increased by 9% compared to January. During the period from March 1-18, monthly sales increased by 5%.
According to Sletat.ru, sales of tours to Vietnam from February 1 to March 18 increased 3.4 times.
Meanwhile, Level.Travel reported a four-fold increase in sales in Vietnam in March. The company noted that orders mainly came from Russian regions.
Travel companies are reporting a clear positive trend. Russian Express said that in February and March, sales on this route increased 5.5 times compared to the same period last year.
Lyubov Voronina, General Director of Let's Fly travel agency, expects demand to the "S-shaped strip of land" to continue to grow, reaching about 20%. She believes that the expansion of the flight program is the main factor.
Direct flights between Russia and Vietnam were suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic. Aeroflot resumes flights to Ho Chi Minh City from winter 2024.
The programs are being expanded. Aeroflot will operate flights to the resort city of Nha Trang from March 22, departing from Moscow three times a week in April.
From March 16, Azur Air will fly from 9 cities in Siberia and the Far East. Among the 8 cities in Russia, Pegas Touristik has planned a charter program to Nha Trang on the “Ikar” aircraft. Vietnam Airlines plans to launch a regular flight from Moscow to Hanoi in May.
According to OneTwoTrip, Vietnam was among the 10 most popular destinations in March. It accounted for 4% of airline bookings and 3.8% of hotel bookings, double the same period last year.
Yandex Travel said that the number of tickets sold to Vietnam increased by 49% in the period from March 1 to 18 compared to the same period last year. The average cost of a flight to the two countries was 81,000 and 91,800 rubles ($954.5-$1,154.5) for a round-trip ticket. Aviasales recorded a 62.5% increase in Vietnam's market share during the year.
Hotel booking website Ostrovok said that hotel bookings in Vietnam have increased by 25% since the beginning of March compared to the same period last year. According to the company, Vietnam has become the fastest growing destination since the beginning of the year.
Other popular Southeast Asian destinations such as Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines have maintained demand at last year’s levels. Together, the countries in the region accounted for 7% of total hotel room sales in March, Ostrovok said.
According to the service, the average cost of a room night in Vietnam has increased by 18%, to 5,100 rubles.
In terms of increasing sales, Vietnam can compete with other popular foreign destinations. Anex Tour notes that the country currently ranks third in summer sales, behind only Türkiye and Egypt. The company says this move is strengthening its position in the market.
Lyubov Voronina does not rule out the possibility that Vietnam's share in the Russian market will increase, mainly because Thailand is already overloaded with Russian tourists. "This is a good alternative, you can fly to the resorts in Mui Ne and Nha Trang even in the summer," she said.
