The film follows the life of Di, a 12-year-old girl living in a fog-shrouded village in the Northwest mountains. Di is from the Mong ethnic group, where women marry at a young age and there is a controversial tradition of “wife-pulling”.
Director Ha Le Diem asked Di for permission many times to film the dates.
As Di entered puberty, her personality changed dramatically. The carefree little girl became impulsive, sensitive, and often in conflict with her mother, who tried to keep her away from risky relationships she was not yet mature enough to handle.
One spring day, Di went to a festival and was forced to marry a boy older than her. She tried to resist fiercely and refused to marry. Receiving advice from teachers and authorities, Di wanted to continue going to school.

SCREEN CAPTURE
According to the film producer Tran Phuong Thao, the director naturally filmed the film over a period of 3 years, recording all of Di's life and activities. Although it is a documentary, The Children in the Mist is told through a character, with many old and new scenes showing the humanity in each character. After more than 3 years of eating and sleeping at Di's house, director Ha Le Diem has become a member of this Mong family.
In a social context with many changes between tradition and modernity, Di, the main character of the film, does not have to stand up against tradition but she finds a direction for her future.
