After more than 2 months of implementation, the preliminary round of the Ho Chi Minh City Artificial Intelligence Challenge (AI Challenge) has attracted more than 2,700 registered candidates. The jury has selected 60 teams to enter the final round, including Group A with 44 teams and Group B with 16 teams.
The AI Challenge is hosted by the Department of Information and Communications, in coordination with units such as Ho Chi Minh City National University, Department of Science and Technology, Departmentof Education and Training, Center for Youth Science and Technology Development, etc.
60 teams of students from across the country participate in the final round of AI Challenge 2023
According to Mr. Vo Minh Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, the contest is one of the activities in response to the celebration of the National Digital Transformation Day. Through the number of candidates registering to participate, it shows that the field of artificial intelligence is increasingly attracting the attention of many young people.
"The AI Challenge aims to create opportunities for candidates in the field of artificial intelligence to test new data query solutions. Through that, we can find and develop quality human resources for the information technology and AI industry," Mr. Thanh informed.
Mr. Vo Minh Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, informed about the contest.
The solutions of the competing teams can be applied to identify and analyze image and video surveillance data to help improve safety in many human fields; build application programs for specific fields such as: identifying tourist destinations from images, diagnosing diseases from medical images, distinguishing types of rocks and soil in geography, searching for images from information on social networks... especially applied in national security and defense.
In the final round, contestants used software and artificial intelligence tools built by their own teams to solve image query problems in the data warehouse provided by the organizers.
The Organizing Committee requires the teams to query in the form of Know-Item Search (search for pre-described objects), presented in two forms as follows: text query and image or video query. The online submission and scoring system used is DRES (Distributed Retrieval Evaluation Server) according to international standards.
High school students are excited to try their hand at the big playground of artificial intelligence
This year's contest expands the contestants to high school students.
Candidates focus on writing algorithms
Associate Professor - Dr. Tran Minh Triet, Vice Principal of the University of Natural Sciences , Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that the contest is a useful playground, supporting skills and knowledge for candidates. This is the first time there is a contest board for high school students, students have tried to learn about artificial intelligence to try to solve difficult algorithms.
"After the competition, the research solutions of the teams will be announced to the world scientific community. In addition, there are 4 major competitions on artificial intelligence in the world that will be held in Japan, Thailand, the Netherlands, and the US. I hope that the contestants can soon perfect and develop the best skills to reach out to the world's scientific associations" - Associate Professor - Dr. Tran Minh Triet said.
On October 18, the organizing committee will award prizes to the best teams with a total prize of up to 200 million VND.
