In Binh Nguyen commune, the image of clean, well-maintained roads adorned with vibrant flowers creates a striking impression. To achieve this result, the Women's Union of the commune has intensified its efforts in promoting and mobilizing women to participate in environmental protection. Following the Union's awareness campaign, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, a member of the Women's Union, has been sorting organic waste into bins and processing it into fertilizer for plants. Plastic bags and other waste are placed separately in designated bins for transport to a centralized processing facility. Ms. Hang regularly sweeps her neighborhood, uses reusable plastic bags when going to the market, and avoids littering to protect the living environment. Along with the awareness campaign, the Women's Union of the commune has mobilized its officials and members to plant flowers along inter-commune roads; and collaborated with various departments, agencies, and organizations to plant trees along roadsides and in the cultural centers of the villages. The association implemented a model of "Collecting household waste to make organic fertilizer," attracting nearly 300 families to participate; and donated thousands of plastic waste bins to female members. From 2020 to the present, the association has propagated and mobilized families in the commune to collect tens of tons of scrap materials, selling them for nearly 100 million VND to buy gifts for female members and children in difficult circumstances.
With over 6,600 members, the Women's Union of Chi Minh commune has effectively maintained the "Green Sunday" movement, beautifying the landscape and strengthening community bonds. Every Sunday, the branches simultaneously mobilize to clean village roads, alleys, and public areas. In addition, the branches maintain the "Clean Recycling" model, which both protects the environment, combats plastic waste, and creates a charitable fund. Previously, people habitually mixed plastic waste with other household waste. After the Women's Union of the commune implemented the "Clean Recycling" model and encouraged female members to sort waste at source, recyclable materials such as cardboard, beer cans, soft drink cans, plastic bottles, aluminum, and scrap iron are collected. On average, each month, members in the commune collect and sell recyclable materials, earning 1.3 - 1.5 million VND to raise funds to help women and children in difficult circumstances. From this fund, the Association provides 10kg of rice per month to each member in difficult circumstances.
In fulfilling its assigned tasks, the Provincial Women's Union has issued numerous directives to all levels of the Union to promote the dissemination of information and mobilize women to participate in environmental protection; organized training for women on household waste sorting, and methods for making IMO microbial enzymes to treat organic waste... With the knowledge acquired, each female cadre and member has become an effective communicator, creating a ripple effect in the community to work together to protect the environment. To date, 82.8% of households in the province participate in waste sorting, and 79% of households treat waste using IMO microbial enzymes and other biological products; grassroots Women's Unions have awarded plaques to over 26,000 households that meet the criteria of the "Clean House, Beautiful Garden" and "Clean House, Clean Alley" models. In the first quarter of 2026, all levels of the Union implemented many activities such as: General cleaning of village roads and alleys; clearing of drainage ditches; Planting and caring for flower-lined and tree-lined roads attracted over 350,000 female members; over 29,000 new trees were planted in response to the "Tree Planting Festival - Forever Grateful to Uncle Ho". In addition, the Women's Union at all levels implemented the "Building a Family with 5 'Haves' and 3 'Clean's" model in 22 branches; maintained the "Garbage-Free Road" model in 954 women's branches; and maintained 278 "10 Neighboring Households" models... Through the "Turning Waste into Money", "Clean Scrap", and "Green House" models, the grassroots Women's Union collected over 250 million VND, which was used to purchase gifts to support orphaned children in difficult circumstances.
The achievements demonstrate the positive and responsible role of women in environmental protection. Through small, practical daily actions, women's associations at all levels in the province have been creating a noticeable change in awareness and actions within the community, contributing to building a civilized lifestyle and aiming for sustainable development in each locality.
