A makeshift shelter made of leaves, baby bottles, scissors, diapers and hair ties were among the items found as rescue teams tracked down four children missing after their plane crashed.
On May 1, a plane carrying seven people made an emergency landing due to engine failure while traveling in the area. Authorities later found the bodies of three adults, including the pilot, inside the plane.
Initially, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced that the children had been found, but military sources denied it, leading to Petro deleting the announcement. On June 10, he announced again that the children had been found more than a month after the accident, along with a picture of the four children and the rescue team. He called it a "miraculous day" and called the children "children of peace ."

The children, the youngest just 11 months old, were found after 40 days in the Amazon jungle.
A massive search began for the four children (aged 13, 9, 4 and 11 months) and in May rescuers found items and small footprints that led them to believe they had survived the crash. The children are Huitoto natives and community members believe their knowledge of fruits and jungle survival skills would have given them a better chance of survival.
Locals also joined the search operation and the helicopter even played a recording from the children's grandmother, recorded in the Huitoto language, urging them to stop moving to make it easier for people to locate them.
During the search, in an area where visibility was severely limited due to fog and dense foliage, soldiers in helicopters dropped boxes of food into the forest in the hope of helping the children survive. The aircraft flew over the forest and fired flares to aid the ground search team at night.
President Petro added that he had spoken to the children's grandfather, who said "the jungle mother brought them back".

After confirming the children had been rescued, the president said that for a time he had believed the children had been rescued by one of the nomadic tribes that still roam the remote jungle where the plane crashed and have had little contact with authorities.
But Mr Petro later confirmed that the children were first found by one of the rescue dogs the army sent into the forest.
