From the seniors' cooperative
Established in 2014, Tan Minh Duc Cooperative was founded by two old farmers, Phung Danh Mung and Hoang Anh Thu, initially operating according to the traditional agricultural production model. Not stopping at familiar methods, the cooperative quickly approached and applied science and technology, creating a turning point in local agricultural development.
In 2017, the cooperative began to transition to a high-tech agricultural model, with an initial area of only 5,000 m². Thanks to its strategic vision and perseverance in innovation, the cooperative has now expanded its scale to 50 hectares of greenhouses and net houses. The cooperative's main products include green-fleshed and yellow-fleshed melons and cucumbers, which are cultivated in a closed process, strictly adhering to food quality and safety standards.
Mr. Hoang Anh Thu, Deputy Director of Tan Minh Duc Cooperative shared: "We are not afraid of innovation. When we see the effectiveness of applying technology, we believe in this direction even more. Investing in science and technology not only helps improve productivity and quality of agricultural products but also contributes to changing farmers' production thinking."
Having a stable job in a state agency, Mr. Hoang Van Thanh suddenly decided to pursue high-tech agriculture in the locality. Realizing the potential of the modern model, he became a member of Tan Minh Duc Cooperative. He approached the closed farming process, growing melons and cucumbers in greenhouses, ensuring optimal growing conditions and pest control. With a progressive spirit, he quickly mastered the technique and developed the production model. "I realized that if we know how to apply science and technology, agriculture can bring a stable income, even higher than many other industries," said Mr. Thanh.
According to calculations, the cooperative invested about 330,000 VND in each square meter of greenhouse, equivalent to about 120 million VND per sao. Although the initial investment cost is relatively large, the results are completely commensurate. The greenhouse model helps control climate conditions, pests, humidity and nutrition, thereby significantly increasing the productivity and quality of agricultural products.
In particular, melons grown in greenhouses have high uniformity, crispy and sweet flesh, beautiful appearance, low loss rate, very suitable for strict market standards. On average, each sao of melon can yield 1.2 - 1.5 tons/crop, the selling price ranges from 35,000 - 45,000 VND/kg, even higher during times of shortage, bringing 3 - 4 times more profit than growing outdoors.
To the "bright spot" of agriculture
Up to now, Tan Minh Duc Cooperative has affirmed its reputation and brand in the market. The cooperative's melon and cucumber products are consumed stably through many channels such as supermarkets, clean food chains, and export contracts. Thanks to production following a closed process and meeting food hygiene and safety standards, the cooperative's agricultural products are always highly appreciated by the market for their quality and safety.

Once a purely agricultural commune, Truong Tan has been growing strongly thanks to the application of high-tech agricultural production models. Modern greenhouses and net houses of thousands of square meters have contributed to making Truong Tan one of the city's outstanding highlights in the field of sustainable and modern agricultural development.
The greenhouses and net houses are designed in a synchronous and closed manner, creating a professional production environment. The rows of melons grow well, with bright colors, crispy and sweet flesh, beautiful appearance, and uniform fruit quality, clearly demonstrating the methodical nature of each production stage from seedling to harvest.
With nearly 70 hectares of greenhouses and net houses, the largest in the city, Truong Tan commune is focusing on the main product of melons. This is an agricultural product with high economic value, suitable for market demand and local climate conditions. Production in greenhouses helps farmers effectively control pests and diseases, proactively manage water and nutrition sources, and minimize adverse impacts from the weather.
Ms. Vu Thi Thuy, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Truong Tan Commune, said: "The whole commune currently maintains an average of 3-4 melon crops and 1 cucumber crop per year. The profit is from 1-1.2 billion VND/ha/year. This is a high profit in current agricultural production, while also creating jobs with stable income for local workers."
Transforming high-tech agricultural production, Truong Tan commune aims for sustainable development. By 2030, the commune strives to form concentrated commodity production areas with at least 3 key products, following a stable consumption chain. The area applying VietGAP process will be expanded, many products will have electronic traceability. The locality will continue to expand the area of high-tech agricultural production, replicate the greenhouse and net house models; at the same time, develop safe vegetable areas, high-quality rice areas and fruit tree areas. Along with that, agricultural workers are trained in vocational skills, cultivation and livestock techniques; agricultural cooperatives are oriented to operate more effectively and promote the application of digital transformation.
From a rural area with fragmented production, thanks to proactively approaching technology and organizing modern agricultural production, Truong Tan commune is transforming strongly, increasing people's income. And the model of high-tech greenhouses and net houses has become a model for many localities inside and outside the city to learn from and replicate, towards green, clean, efficient and sustainable agriculture.
