For thirty years under the “common roof” of ASEAN, Vietnam has always considered relations with ASEAN as one of the top priorities in its foreign, security and economic policies. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s working trip once again affirmed Vietnam’s efforts, dedication and contribution to a united, peaceful , self-reliant, inclusive and sustainable ASEAN region.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits took place in the context of a rapidly changing, complex and unpredictable world situation. This put pressure on ASEAN’s solidarity, unity and future.

However, after nearly 60 years of formation and development, experiencing many challenges, ASEAN remains steadfast, a bright spot in multilateral cooperation. A series of substantive and positive cooperation results have been recorded, most notably the adoption of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and the decision to officially admit Timor Leste as the 11th member of the Association. Economic linkages within and outside the bloc have been strengthened through a network of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with China, Korea, India, etc. ASEAN mechanisms have always received support, attention and active participation from partners. This is a testament to the trust and appreciation of the international community for ASEAN's role and capacity.

Under the leadership of Malaysia, the current ASEAN Chair for 2025, ASEAN has been promoting activities towards building an “Inclusive and Sustainable” Community, in line with the theme of ASEAN Year 2025. This theme reflects ASEAN’s message of striving to ensure equal development opportunities for all, leaving no one behind. The 47th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia will witness a historic event: ASEAN officially welcomes new member Timor Leste, bringing the total number of member states to 11. ASEAN’s expansion not only reflects the Association’s enduring appeal, but also contributes to strengthening its inclusiveness and enhancing its resilience.

Over the past 30 years, Vietnam and ASEAN have gone through important moments together, most recently through the adoption of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, opening a new chapter of ASEAN development in the next two decades. This demonstrates ASEAN’s proactive approach in a changing world, while affirming the commitment and determination of the countries to unite to build a resilient, dynamic, innovative and people-centered ASEAN.

After thirty years of accompanying ASEAN, with its increasingly strong position and power, Vietnam has affirmed its indispensable role and important voice in the Association. For Vietnam, joining ASEAN has strategic significance in ensuring a peaceful and secure environment, expanding development space and enhancing the country's position. As for ASEAN, Vietnam's proactive contribution to the Association has important significance in ensuring a united, self-reliant and strategically autonomous ASEAN.

Participating in the 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits, the Vietnamese delegation continued to proactively contribute to common work, especially maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, diversifying relations and markets, and strengthening ASEAN connectivity. Vietnam also welcomed Timor Leste's participation in ASEAN and pledged to support Timor Leste's active integration into the ASEAN Community.

The 30-year milestone of joining ASEAN is not only a historical milestone, but also an affirmation of Vietnam's responsibility to continue standing side by side with other countries to make ASEAN's vision and aspirations come true.

The 30-year milestone of joining ASEAN is not only a historical milestone, but also an affirmation of Vietnam's responsibility to continue to stand side by side with other countries to make ASEAN's vision and aspirations come true. Entering a new phase with ASEAN as the country moves into an era of growth, Vietnam is clearly aware of its mission and responsibility in realizing ASEAN's goals, continuing to contribute to spreading the success story of the Association and its member countries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's attendance at the 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits in Malaysia conveyed a message of a Vietnam that always upholds the spirit of responsibility, proactiveness and creativity, contributing to building a stable, sustainable and inclusive ASEAN Community, so that ASEAN can truly become a "warm home" for the people of member countries.
