On the afternoon of October 25th, at the National Assembly building, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during the Secretary-General's official visit to Vietnam.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the Chairman of the National Assembly expressed gratitude for the valuable sentiments and support of the Secretary-General personally, and the effective contributions and assistance of the United Nations – a reliable and close partner of Vietnam in national reconstruction as well as in the current comprehensive Doi Moi (Renovation) and international integration process.

Affirming Vietnam's unwavering belief in, respect for, and strong support of multilateralism, the central role of the United Nations in global governance, and the leadership and initiatives of the Secretary-General, the Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized that Vietnam will continue to contribute even more effectively to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world, to the common work of the United Nations and multilateral cooperation, including world and regional inter-parliamentary forums, especially within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The UN Secretary-General expressed his deep respect and special affection for National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, noting his 18 years as a member of the Portuguese Parliament, as well as his commitment to and support for Vietnam's struggle for independence and reunification.

Expressing admiration for Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, the Secretary-General particularly congratulated Vietnam on the results achieved in its recent rapid and profound reforms, stating that Vietnam is a successful model in promoting sustainable development, fulfilling commitments to green transformation, digital transformation, innovation, and strong reforms for rapid, strong, and sustainable development that better serves the people. He noted that these experiences could be shared with other countries and the United Nations for reference. The Secretary-General was impressed by the efforts and contributions of the Vietnamese National Assembly in this process and the urgent and active work of the current National Assembly session.

The UN Secretary-General highly appreciated Vietnam's role, position, and contributions through its example, voice, intellect, and concrete actions, especially in implementing the major goals of the United Nations, as well as participating in peacekeeping activities and presiding over the signing ceremony of the UN Convention against Cybercrime.

The Secretary-General also appreciated the active participation of the Vietnamese National Assembly in multilateral inter-parliamentary foreign affairs mechanisms, hoping that the Vietnamese National Assembly would continue to promote its active role and promote multilateral solutions to issues of common concern.

Both sides agreed to strengthen connections and promote cooperation mechanisms between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the activities of the United Nations and relevant multilateral mechanisms, especially inter-parliamentary cooperation, in implementing global initiatives.
