This is also the first time Vietnamese golf has won a medal at an Asian Youth Games, affirming the steady progress of this young sport on the continental arena.
Participating in this tournament, the Vietnamese golf team consisted of four young athletes: Doan Uy, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Le Chuc An and Nguyen Vu Hoang Anh. After three days of hard competition, the team won two Silver Medals in the men's individual and men's team events.
In the men's individual event, athlete Nguyen Tuan Anh played impressively, especially in the final round when he completed 18 holes with 66 (-6), scoring 7 birdies and only 1 bogey. This excellent performance helped the 16-year-old golfer finish with a total score just 1 stroke behind champion Han Jin (China) - who scored the decisive birdie on hole 18 to win the Gold Medal.
This is the second consecutive time Nguyen Tuan Anh has been in the medal competition group at a major international tournament, demonstrating his remarkable growth in a short time.
In the men's team event, Nguyen Tuan Anh continued to play a pivotal role when combining with teammate Doan Uy to bring the final result of -14 strokes for the Vietnamese team. In which, Doan Uy also had a commendable day with 70 strokes (-2). Despite great efforts, the Vietnamese men's team was only 1 stroke behind the champion team China, had to accept the runner-up position but still had the right to be proud of this unprecedented feat.
In the women's individual event, athlete Le Chuc An - a familiar face of the national golf team, ended the final day with 68 strokes, bringing her total score to -9. Despite a steady performance in each round, she still could not break into the medal group in the context of fierce competition from opponents in the region, thereby ranking 10th overall.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Vu Hoang Anh finished three rounds with a total score of +3. Both female athletes contributed their efforts to the overall performance of the women's team, thereby helping the team finish the tournament in 5th place in the women's team event.
The 2025 Asian Youth Games is one of the most competitive continental youth sporting events, with the participation of many young talents from golf powerhouses in the region such as China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, etc.
The fact that the Vietnamese youth golf team not only participated but also directly competed for the leading positions shows positive changes in training and developing the next generation.
Although not yet able to reach the Gold Medal, the two Silver Medals won at the Asian Youth Games 2025 are clear evidence of the strong rise of Vietnamese golf. This achievement not only contributes to the gold medal list of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the Games, but also opens up new hope for the journey to conquer the peak in the future.
Previously, at the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese golf team also won 3 medals, showing stability and sustainable development. The next goal that the Vietnamese golf team is aiming for is the 33rd SEA Games, scheduled to take place in Thailand this December.
