The craft of making bamboo baskets in Phu My village, An Dan commune, Phu Yen province (now Tuy An Bac commune, Dak Lak province) has a long-standing tradition. This area produces baskets used by fishermen for fishing at sea.

This special waterproofing layer can be used in a seawater environment for 4-5 years. Torn baskets can be repaired. Photo: NGUYEN TRINH Once the basket is finished, the craftsman will apply a mixture of fresh cow dung and water evenly to both sides. This method is used to seal the gaps between the bamboo slats. Two layers of dried cow dung are then coated with two layers of resin to complete the process.
