According to Foot Mercato, the La Liga champions have reached a preliminary agreement with Nico Williams on a six-year contract (until June 2031), with a salary of 12 million euros/season.
The information said that both parties were satisfied with the financial terms, in line with the offer made by Barca , during meetings between sporting director Deco and Nico Williams' representative.
Barca are pushing ahead with the signing of Nico Williams , after the Athletic Bilbao winger was given the green light to move to the Nou Camp.
The 22-year-old star also clarified that he will still play in La Liga, despite interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, etc. So there are only two possibilities: either Nico Williams signs with Barca, or renews with Bilbao.
Barca have decided to activate Nico Williams' release clause, believed to be between 58-62 million, and are now only discussing the payment structure with Bilbao, in order to ensure La Liga's financial fair play requirements.
Barca's plan to sign Nico Williams came last summer and that was also Lamine Yamal 's wish, after the pair of close friends played extremely well and exploded at EURO 2024.
However, the deal did not happen because Williams promised his brother to stay in Bilbao for at least one more year. But now it seems there is nothing to stop Nico from sharing the Barca shirt with Yamal.
In the last campaign, Nico scored 11 goals and 7 assists in 45 appearances for Bilbao in all competitions, being a key factor in helping the team qualify for the Champions League next season.
