As the peach blossoms still shyly begin to open, the Tet atmosphere already fills many families receiving government assistance with joy and warmth. For many people who have contributed to the revolution in the western part of the city, the Tet gift worth 5.5 million VND from the city is not only material support but also a great honor, beyond their expectations.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thoang, Vice Chairman of the Veterans Association of Vinh Lai commune, is a war invalid who served 10 years on international duty in the Laotian battlefield. In 2025, he was granted a centralized rehabilitation allowance. At the beginning of 2026, Mr. Thoang received the largest Tet (Lunar New Year) gift he had ever received, consisting of 5.2 million VND in cash and 300,000 VND worth of gifts. "This is a very meaningful gift, showing the city's deep concern for those who have rendered meritorious service," Mr. Thoang shared emotionally.
During the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the city presented Tet gifts to over 44,400 people with meritorious service in the eastern area and nearly 55,400 people in the western area, including those who rendered meritorious service to the revolution, relatives of martyrs, and those who worship martyrs.

Fifty individuals who rendered meritorious service to the nation received direct visits, gifts, and encouragement from city leaders. Mr. Tran Nguyen Thinh, a disabled veteran with a 61% body injury rate and residing in Hamlet 1, Cam Giang Commune, was one of those visited by city leaders immediately after the merger of Hai Duong Province and Hai Phong City. Mr. Thinh shared: “Not only were they visited and encouraged, but my opinions and aspirations regarding the care of families of policy beneficiaries were listened to, accepted, and quickly realized by the city leaders and local authorities. This further strengthens our belief and pride that Hai Phong is always among the top localities in caring for those who rendered meritorious service to the revolution.”
With the goal of "prioritizing social welfare over economic development," according to Mr. Nguyen Minh Hung, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, along with the state budget, communes, wards, and special zones will continue to mobilize legitimate social resources in diverse forms to better care for the material and spiritual lives of policy beneficiary families during holidays and on a regular basis, ensuring that the living standards of those who have rendered meritorious services are always higher than the general average of the population.
During the Lunar New Year of the Horse (Bính Ngọ) this year, more than 99,800 people who rendered meritorious services to the revolution, their relatives, and those who worship martyrs in Hai Phong received gifts worth 5.5 million VND each. The joy spread as, for the first time, nearly 55,400 people who rendered meritorious services to the revolution in the western part of the city received valuable and meaningful Tet gifts.
