According to the Department of Home Affairs of Ninh Thuan province, after the Provincial Party Committee issued a Resolution approving the Project on rearranging commune-level administrative units in 2025, the locality conducted a consultation with voters according to regulations. The results showed that the consensus rate reached over 90%, demonstrating the high agreement and support of the people for the policy of streamlining the administrative apparatus and improving the efficiency of grassroots government operations.
Regarding the naming scheme after the merger, the Department of Home Affairs said that to avoid unnecessary confusion, the province decided to keep the names of commune-level administrative units in the form of sequential numbers 1, 2, 3, 4..., instead of completely changing the new name. This is to create continuity in people's awareness, while still ensuring clear identification between the units after the arrangement.
According to the approved Project, after completing the merger, Ninh Thuan will reduce the number of commune-level administrative units from 62 to 24, including 19 communes and 5 wards.
Specifically, the 5 new wards of Ninh Thuan province were merged from the old wards of Phan Rang - Thap Cham city, Khanh Hai town (Ninh Hai district) and Nhon Son commune (Ninh Son district), respectively named: Phan Rang 1, Phan Rang 2, Phan Rang 3, Phan Rang 4 and Phan Rang 5.
Ninh Hai district and Bac Son commune (Thuan Bac district) are arranged into 3 communes with the names: Ninh Hai 1, Ninh Hai 2 and Ninh Hai 3. Ninh Phuoc district, Phu Tho village, Dong Hai ward (Phan Rang - Thap Cham city) and An Hai commune (Ninh Phuoc district) are arranged into 3 communes: Ninh Phuoc 1, Ninh Phuoc 2 and Ninh Phuoc 3.
Thuan Nam district added Phu Tho village, Dong Hai ward (Phan Rang - Thap Cham city) and An Hai commune (Ninh Phuoc district) to be arranged into 4 communes: Thuan Nam 1 to Thuan Nam 4.
Ninh Son district added Phuoc Trung commune (Bac Ai district) and arranged it into 4 communes with names from Ninh Son 1 to Ninh Son 4. Bac Ai district arranged it into 3 communes from Bac Ai 1 to Bac Ai 3.
The arrangement and merger of administrative units is a major policy of the Party and State to streamline the organizational apparatus, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the political system, and contribute to promoting local socio-economic development.
