Traveling nearly 500km, Mrs. Ban Thi Loan (49 years old, from Nam Nhun, Lai Chau province) spent 12 hours on a bus to take her 9-year-old grandchild with epilepsy to the National Children's Hospital for examination. The number of patients coming for examination was very large, so the grandmother and grandchild had to line up early to be able to see the doctor and return home on the same day. "Last time, my grandchild had to stay in the hospital for more than a month, it was very difficult," Mrs. Loan shared.

The National Children's Hospital is the final level of pediatrics in the Northern region. The large number of patients has caused the facility 1 to be frequently overloaded. Meanwhile, many high-tech services are currently only available at the central level and cannot be performed at provincial hospitals, leading to pressure on the center. For many years, the National Children's Hospital (La Thanh facility) has been in a state of infrastructure overload. The need for additional facilities to serve medical examination and treatment has become urgent.

In 2023, the second facility of the Hospital was started to be built, located in Ngoc Than village, Ngoc My commune, Quoc Oai district, Hanoi city, right on Thang Long Avenue - the western gateway of the capital. The project is part of the Master Plan for the construction of the capital to 2030, with a vision to 2050, with a total planning research area of about 6 hectares. Of which, the construction area of the project is about 7,530m2 including 1 administrative block with 3 floors, 2 inpatient treatment blocks with 6 floors; there is 1 basement. Along with other auxiliary items with a construction floor area of about 1,009m2 and accompanying technical infrastructure.

This is a pediatric hospital with a scale of 300 inpatient beds, outpatient examination of about 1,000 - 2,000 patients/day, complete infrastructure and investment in modern, synchronous medical equipment; has a team of highly qualified staff, doctors and nurses with specialized specialties, can partially solve the overload situation at the Central Children's Hospital in the inner city and is also expected to become a center for training and developing pediatric human resources for the whole country.

Deputy Director of National Children's Hospital Trinh Ngoc Hai.

Deputy Director of Trinh Ngoc Hai Hospital said that the total investment of the project is 882 billion VND. Of which, the construction and installation part alone worth about 600 billion VND, carried out by Delta Construction Group Co., Ltd., has completed about 98% of the volume and is being tested. The system of modern medical machinery and equipment such as ultrasound machines, X-ray machines, operating room equipment, testing equipment, etc. has been invested over 160 billion VND, and the bidding work has also been completed.

The hospital has also deployed and prepared information technology infrastructure. In the context of promoting the application of science and technology "digitalization", this is very important because the hospital determined that, when put into operation, the information technology system must be synchronized, connecting the two facilities in the management of medical examination and treatment, professional training, deploying electronic medical records, connecting with the payment gateway of Social Insurance...

Regarding the most important issue for a medical facility, which is human resources - especially high-quality human resources, the leader of the National Children's Hospital said that "we can be completely assured". "We have had a plan and prepared human resources for the past 5 or 6 years. Therefore, up to now, the team of about 300 medical staff, including doctors, nurses, technicians and administrative staff, is ready and can take on tasks as soon as the hospital comes into operation", said Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hai.

The hospital has assigned a Deputy Director to be in charge of Facility 2. Leaders, doctors, nurses, and staff from departments and offices will take turns implementing professional activities at Facility 2 for a period of 6 months to 1 year. The hospital is also studying policies to provide additional support to employees during their time working at Facility 2 (regarding transportation, accommodation, etc.).

In particular, with a convenient traffic location, located next to Thang Long Avenue, National Highway 21A, along with Provincial Roads 80 and 81 and being a new facility, with synchronous investment from infrastructure to equipment - the second facility of the National Children's Hospital will be a very convenient choice for people in the northern provinces and cities, especially the provinces in the Northwest such as: Hoa Binh, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La, Phu Tho...

“It must be affirmed that although the two facilities are located in different locations, they are only one house - the National Children's Hospital, so people can completely rest assured to choose one of the two facilities for examination and treatment,” emphasized Deputy Director of the Hospital Trinh Ngoc Hai.

The leaders of the National Children's Hospital said that in the past time, they have received great attention from the leaders of the Ministry of Health, Hanoi City, and the local authorities of Quoc Oai District and Ngoc My Commune so that the Hospital can soon come into operation. However, currently, the traffic connection with Thang Long Avenue is not really convenient. "The hospital has made a proposal and really hopes that Hanoi City will pay attention to this issue so that medical examination and treatment, and ambulances can enter and exit most conveniently," said Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hai.
