Many readers wonder if changing health insurance registration from a small hospital to a large hospital will extend benefits?

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance, said that when people change the place where they initially registered for health insurance examination and treatment, their benefits will remain the same.

The main difference is that the drug list at large hospitals is richer and more diverse, however patients have to wait longer, spend more time, and have to pay more co-payments.

Furthermore, if people register for health insurance at their initial healthcare facility, in addition to receiving treatment at their registered facility, they can also receive treatment at other initial-level facilities such as private clinics, commune/ward health stations, clinics belonging to the Health Center, or receive inpatient and outpatient treatment at hospitals that were designated as district-level before January 1, 2025, or be admitted for inpatient treatment at provincial-level hospitals that were designated as provincial-level before January 1, 2025.

Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance informed that the Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Medicine Hospital officially accepted initial health insurance registration for some groups. Notably, patients over 75 years old only need to bring their citizen identification to the health insurance agent to register.

In addition, people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, psoriasis, etc. are given the opportunity to register at this hospital for convenient long-term treatment monitoring.

Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital also started accepting initial health insurance registrations.

Eligible applicants include civil servants, employees, students and postgraduate students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

The expansion of the initial health insurance registration facilities at two hospitals with specialized capacity is expected to help people access high-quality medical services right from the front line and improve the effectiveness of primary health care for the community.
