Viettel Thai Nguyen increases equipment and human resources to fix problems. |
As soon as the water receded, engineers and staff from the telecommunications industry were present at the scene – where mud and floodwater still surrounded. They brought specialized tools and equipment, crossed the divided roads to restore the signal, prioritizing important locations such as government headquarters, hospitals, rescue centers...
Mr. Vu Hong Quan, Director of Viettel Thai Nguyen , said: In addition to the unit's efforts, we received timely support from the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group. More than 300 personnel from the provinces, 20 Starlink transceivers, dozens of reconnaissance flycams, and 5 specialized drones were mobilized to serve the search and rescue work and maintain communication.
On October 9 alone, Viettel forces carried out 200 transports and 30 navigations for rescue teams, bringing 5 tons of essential goods to people in deep flooded areas. The drones have a range of 5km and a payload of up to 50kg, helping to shorten rescue response time and ensure timely command information.
Thanks to the urgent intervention, within just 24 to 48 hours after the water receded, many interrupted information points were basically restored. To date, about 85% of customers have had signals again, and about 15% in deeply flooded areas are still being processed. Businesses aim to soon completely restore the communication network, ensuring smooth information throughout the area.

VNPT Thai Nguyen staff check the unit's equipment and infrastructure. |
Mr. Vu Tien Dung, Deputy Director of VNPT Thai Nguyen, informed: During the peak period, we increased equipment in key areas to maintain communication for operations. After the flood receded, the unit mobilized maximum human resources and materials to focus on troubleshooting. Up to now, 54/935 infrastructure stations have lost communication (5.7%) and about 17.7% of subscribers have been temporarily interrupted. We strive to complete the restoration before October 15.
Ensuring communication after a storm or flood is not just about welding fiber optic cables or rebuilding broadcasting stations, it also has a profound humanitarian meaning - connecting people in the most difficult times.
In recent years, in the face of natural disasters and erratic storms, the telecommunications industry has proactively adapted more strongly. Based on practical experience in dealing with floods, businesses such as VNPT, Viettel, MobiFone... have all developed detailed prevention plans for each locality, while investing in improving the "resilience" of telecommunications infrastructure.
Along with that, businesses are carrying out digital transformation in network management, monitoring and operation: applying early warning technology, remote monitoring, smart sensors and GPS positioning to help detect incidents early, shorten processing time and minimize damage.
After each storm and flood, the BTS stations that light up again are not only a sign of the information connection, but also a symbol of the resilience, responsibility and dedication of the “wave keepers”. They not only restore data transmission, but also restore people’s trust and peace of mind.
From these efforts, the Thai Nguyen Telecommunications industry continues to affirm its role as the “information blood vessel” in all situations, from economic development, education, health care to natural disaster prevention, rescue and relief. Because, only when information is clear, all support and direction actions can take place quickly, accurately and effectively.
