Today (August 19), the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) announced that tomorrow, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will leave for Phuket - Thailand to participate in the Women's Volleyball World Championship (from August 22 to September 7) without key scorer Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen. "For personal reasons, athlete Bich Tuyen has expressed her wish not to participate in this competition. VFV and the coaching board respect the athlete's decision. We affirm that Bich Tuyen is always an important member and always welcome her return to contribute to the national team in the future when she is ready," the VFV announcement said.

Middle blockers: Nguyen Thi Trinh, Tran Thi Bich Thuy, Le Thanh Thuy, Pham Thi Hien

VFV informed: "The fact that the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is participating for the first time in the most prestigious playground on the planet is a source of great pride, a historic journey marking a new chapter for Vietnamese volleyball.

This is the first time, and a valuable opportunity for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team to compete on the world stage, approach and compete with major volleyball teams, thereby accumulating experience, developing expertise to prepare for the biggest goal of the year, the 33rd SEA Games. After returning from Thailand, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will take a short break before returning to training in October.

The 2025 Women's Volleyball World Cup will feature 32 teams divided into eight groups. The teams will compete in a round robin to determine the top two teams from each group to advance to the round of 16.

At this World Volleyball Championship, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is in Group G with Poland (ranked 3rd in the world), Germany (ranked 11th in the world) and Kenya (ranked 23rd in the world). According to the schedule, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will open against Poland (August 23), then meet Germany (August 25), Kenya (August 27).

Bich Tuyen withdraws from the world volleyball tournament in Thailand

The coaching staff determined that the tournament is a valuable opportunity for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team to compete on the world stage, approach and compete with major volleyball teams, thereby accumulating experience and developing expertise to prepare for the biggest goal of the year, the 33rd SEA Games.

To prepare for the tournament, the whole team has undergone a serious training process, participated in a number of tournaments and achieved good results. Notably, the championship of the second stage of SEA V.League 2025, after a historic victory against Thailand".

At 7pm today, the team will play their last friendly match against Kenya and Bich Tuyen will not be present in this match.
