In Duc Tho commune, farmers are urgently heading to the fields to prepare the land, following the principle of preparing the land as soon as the rice is harvested, in order to "race against" the unpredictable weather forecast.

There is an adequate water supply to facilitate land preparation.

Along with using machinery, people are cleaning the fields, collecting straw and crop residues to limit the outbreak of pests and diseases in the new production season.

This year, Mr. Tran Huu Khanh's family (Dong Kinh commune) planted one acre of rice in the summer-autumn crop season. Mr. Khanh said: “My family is currently clearing the straw, pumping water into the fields, and hiring a tractor to prepare the land in order to plant the 98 sticky rice variety, striving to complete the summer-autumn crop before May 30th. Delaying the planting season will affect the growth and yield of the rice.”

The atmosphere in the fields these days is bustling with activity. Taking advantage of favorable weather, farmers in Duc Thinh, Can Loc, and Dong Kinh communes are urgently pumping water, plowing, and preparing the land for the summer-autumn crop. Mr. Le Thiet Hung (Can Loc commune) said: “Right after harvesting the spring crop, while the fields still have enough water, my family proceeded to plow and level the land to prepare for planting. Everyone hopes for favorable weather so that this year's summer-autumn crop will yield high productivity.”

To ensure timely planting, agricultural service cooperatives are coordinating with machine owners to mobilize maximum resources for the summer-autumn crop production. “These days, I work from early morning until late at night, with the machines running almost continuously in the fields. Every day, I prepare the land for about 20-30 households. Everyone wants to prepare the land quickly to facilitate planting,” shared Mr. Tu Huu Thang, a machine owner in Can Loc commune.

Experts predict that the 2026 summer-autumn crop season will continue to face many risks such as prolonged heatwaves, localized droughts, extreme heavy rainfall, and unpredictable pest and disease outbreaks. Therefore, adhering to the seasonal planting schedule and proactively implementing response measures are receiving special attention from localities.

For the 2026 summer-autumn crop season, Ha Tinh province aims to cultivate over 45,500 hectares of rice, with a production of over 230,000 tons.

According to experts, this year's heatwave is likely to appear earlier, with more frequent and intense heatwaves than in previous years. Meanwhile, rainfall from June to the first half of September is forecast to be quite low, posing a high risk of drought and water shortages for production, especially in high-lying areas and at the end of irrigation canals. Experts advise people to focus on harvesting the spring rice crop quickly and efficiently, accelerating land preparation and planting for the summer-autumn crop, and striving to complete planting before June 5th to minimize risks from unfavorable weather at the end of the season.
