Hai Duong farmers first access international economic integration program

Deputy Chief of the Vietnam SPS Office Ngo Xuan Nam suggested that Hai Duong focus on solutions to soon change the thinking and actions on agricultural export production for businesses, cooperatives and farmers.

On the morning of November 26, in Hai Duong City, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong province and the National Information and Enquiry Point on Epidemiology and Animal and Plant Quarantine of Vietnam (SPS) jointly organized the international economic integration program and the Farmers' Bridge Forum in 2024.

Attending the program, in addition to representatives of the agricultural sector, there were also leaders, associations, unions and many farmers from localities with vegetable growing areas for export in Cam Giang district, Nam Sach, Chi Linh city and Hai Duong city.

At the conference, delegates attending the program were informed by SPS experts about regulations and commitments on food safety, animal and plant quarantine in the Free Trade Agreements between Vietnam and the EU markets (European Union), HALAL (Muslim countries), RCEP (10 ASEAN countries and 5 partners including China, Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand).

This is the first time Hai Duong farmers have participated in a conference to discuss the international economic integration program. Through listening to experts and directly reading documents, many farmers have initially accessed knowledge, clearly understood the importance of ensuring food safety, complying with international regulations in agricultural production for export to apply in the future...

Vietnam has signed 17 free trade agreements, including 9 new generation free trade agreements on commitments to export agricultural products, food... Vietnamese agricultural products in general, and Hai Duong in particular, have been and are being exported to 27 countries in the European Union (EU) and many countries in the ASEAN region, Asia...

Many agricultural products in Hai Duong such as carrots, lychees, cabbages, cauliflowers, etc. are increasingly exported with increasingly high value. The potential for developing vegetable growing areas to serve the province's export market is still large.

However, the current challenge is that most farmers and cooperatives still maintain the production mindset of "producing as is", not paying much attention to food safety and hygiene, and complying with international regulations. Most agricultural products are mainly consumed domestically, and their value is not high.
