This spring crop, the whole province planted 1,234 hectares of tobacco, an increase of nearly 200 hectares compared to 2024 thanks to stable output and attractive prices. Of which, Ngan Son district leads with nearly 1,000 hectares. Currently, people have basically completed the harvest and are drying the last batches to sell to businesses.
In Bang Van commune, many households have changed their lives thanks to this crop. Mr. Dinh Huu Khanh, Dong Chot village said: “My family has been involved in tobacco for more than 12 years. This year, we planted 6,000m², dried 2 tons, with an average price of 65,000-70,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, we still have a profit of about 100 million VND”.
This year's purchase price is higher than last year. The best type is bought by businesses at 70,000 VND/kg (last year the highest was 65,000 VND/kg), making people very excited. Bach Thong is the second largest raw material area, with 160 hectares. Here, many households have also finished harvesting and are happy because of the good price.
Mr. Dinh Quang Hoang, Na Ca village, Sy Binh commune (Bach Thong), expanded the planting area to 4,000m², an increase of 1,000m² compared to last year. He said: "My family harvested 1.5 tons of dry medicine, with an estimated income of about 70 million VND. High prices and stable output make people feel more secure in investing.
According to Mr. Doan Xuan Huong, Head of Phu Thong Tobacco Raw Material Station, this year the unit purchases according to market prices: Level 1 is 71,000 VND/kg; Level 2 is 68,000 VND/kg; Level 3 is 66,000 VND/kg. Lower-grade drugs are purchased at negotiated prices. The unit has announced specific prices and purchasing schedules to the communes.
Phu Thong Tobacco Raw Material Station is a long-term partner of farmers in Bach Thong district. However, the unit still faces difficulties when some households, despite their commitments, still sell their products outside. This affects the company's purchasing plan, while there are currently no sanctions, mainly relying on propaganda and mobilization.
From a crop that was once considered difficult to sell, tobacco has now become an important link in the agricultural economic structure in Bac Kan. Not only creating a stable raw material area, tobacco also contributes to solving employment and increasing income for people.
With the support of businesses in supporting seeds, fertilizers and purchasing at stable prices, tobacco continues to be an economic pillar for many households. However, to maintain the raw material area, growers need to raise awareness in implementing consumption commitments.
