BHG - I am working at the Electronic Newspaper and Digital Content Department of Ha Giang Newspaper, where each reporter not only writes, but also knows how to film, edit clips, and even set up a studio to produce multimedia press products. The work here is flexible, from directly planning the implementation of topics, contacting characters and going to filming and interviewing facilities to post-production and completing press products. It is this dynamic, stressful but opportunity-filled environment that has helped me hone my craft, perfect my skills, and grow up every day in my journey as an Electronic Newspaper.

I started working in journalism in 2015. The first years were a time of learning, practical experience and gradually shaping the path I would pursue. In April 2019, the Editorial Board of Ha Giang Newspaper took an interest in me and created conditions for me to work as a contract reporter in charge of Yen Minh district, specializing in writing articles for print newspapers. Since then, the years working with Ha Giang Newspaper have become a journey of many memorable experiences, from working in the highlands to the dramatic changes when I switched to working as an online newspaper at the end of 2020, where I was exposed to more modern and comprehensive forms of journalism.
By the end of 2020, the Editorial Board trusted me and transferred me to the Electronic Newspaper Department, now the Electronic Newspaper and Digital Content Department, a new, dynamic and challenging environment. From here, my work has become more colorful, or jokingly, "like a fish in water". Not only writing, I apply the skills I have had since my professional studies to when I started my career to film, edit clips, set up studios, and create multimedia journalism products in the Electronic Newspaper environment.
Conducting a report on Tet 2025 in Duong Hong commune (Bac Me) about Resolution 27 on eliminating backward customs, practices, and habits, and building a civilized lifestyle. |
In the early days of video editing with new software and new formats, I struggled all day with a few minutes of footage, sometimes cutting too much, sometimes the sound was out of focus, sometimes the lighting was too harsh... But then I kept doing it, kept making mistakes, learning, and correcting. Now, from a reporter who was only familiar with holding a pen, I can take on the entire process of a complete video product, from coming up with ideas, contacting characters, going to the field, interviewing, filming, writing commentary, post-production, until the product is completed and posted on Ha Giang Electronic Newspaper.
Many people jokingly call us “multi-tasking reporters” because on a business trip, we have to do everything by ourselves, such as filming, taking photos, interviewing, gathering information from the characters to the relevant agencies, and then writing the story ourselves. But for me, that is not a burden, but an opportunity to practice my craft, to be creative, and to grow.
Working as a journalist in Ha Giang cannot help but mention the hardships in the work. The large area, rugged terrain, and harsh weather are inherent challenges. There are days when we walk for kilometers through rocky roads in the rugged, rugged highlands to reach villages and people in remote areas, just to record a few minutes of real, vivid images. In the rainy season, the roads are slippery, the equipment must be wrapped in plastic, the images and cameras must be kept as "treasures", because a small mistake can also lose all valuable documents and especially, this is the property of the state, so the work must be extremely meticulous.
Implementing the topic "More than 200 households in Lung Cang, Lung Pu and Lung Ray villages, Thuan Hoa commune (Vi Xuyen) still do not have access to the national grid". |
But it is also these difficulties that have created my professional mettle. I learned how to manage in all conditions, learned how to tell stories in many forms, learned how to put myself at the center of life to bring information closer to the public.
The Electronic Newspaper and Digital Content Department where I am working does not have a large number of reporters, but it is a place where the spirit of innovation, creativity, adaptation and dedication converge. Each member must work with the spirit of "learning while working", updating technology and modern journalism trends, while still upholding the principle of being the mouthpiece of the Provincial Party Committee. We produce a variety of multimedia journalism products such as: News videos, short reports, documentaries, Emagazines, infographics, photo reports, the "Check-in Ha Giang" column introducing attractive tourist destinations, "Talk Ha Giang" with in-depth conversations, radio programs and story reading programs... This is not only a step forward in the trend of modern journalism but also a way to bring information closer and more attractive to readers of many ages and many different locations.
Having been with the Electronic Newspaper for more than 5 years, I have realized that journalism is not just about reporting news, but also about dedication, heart, and the desire to inspire. I am proud to be a part of the information flow of Ha Giang. And I am also proud to have contributed a small part to that journey, the journey of journalists in the digital transformation era: Multi-talented, multi-media, but always keeping a passion for the profession.

This year, the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), myself and many journalists and reporters working in the province share the same feelings of pride and emotion. Proud to be a small part of the team of revolutionary journalists; moved because the journey has not only been a journey of work, but also a journey of attachment, dedication, effort and continuous contribution to contribute to spreading information, building and developing the homeland of Ha Giang.
Currently, when Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang provinces are making efforts to complete the preparations for the provincial merger, Ha Giang Newspaper and Tuyen Quang Radio and Television Newspaper will also merge into a common press agency. In the immediate future, there will certainly be countless difficulties, changes in organization, working methods and locations... But I believe that this is also an opportunity for each journalist, including me, to make more efforts, innovate more, and dedicate more, not only to contribute to making the common newspaper strong, but also to contribute my small part to the sustainable development of the new province in the new era.
