On the afternoon of November 10, at the Liberation Arts Resistance Club of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports , the VTV 9 film crew, directed by Mai Huong (daughter-in-law of the late People's Artist Can Truong - the famous artist who played the character Lenin in the stage play "The Kremlin Clock Bell"), filmed emotional scenes. Two female artists with gray hair, Ca Le Hong and Phi Yen, told emotional stories in the jungle of the Central Bureau base - where the sound of music and dances resounded amidst bombs and bullets.

Meritorious Artist Phi Yen burst into tears

Meritorious Artist Phi Yen lit incense for her comrades and colleagues who lay down their lives in the forests of the South. She burst into tears when mentioning artists who were soldiers such as: authors Tran Huu Trang, Nguyen Ngoc Cung, Le Chi Truc (musician Hoang Viet), poet Ca Le Hien (Le Anh Xuan)...

They are quiet but brave examples. "They are not only names of art, but also symbols of a generation that takes culture as a front, art as a spiritual weapon" - Meritorious Artist Phi Yen said.

From performances staged right in the middle of the war zone such as "Mother holding a gun" - where Meritorious Artist Phi Yen transformed into a resilient Southern mother, until now, that image is still hung solemnly at the Southern Women's Museum, as a living symbol of the artist-soldier.

The film recreates portraits of artists who created the "resistance culture", from poet Le Anh Xuan, writer Nguyen Thi, musician Hoang Hiep, to cameraman Pham Khac, photographer Mau Hoang Thiet...

Director Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong is a rich narrator. She not only researched, but also reread the poem "Vietnam's Posture" in this documentary, to recall "the nation's posture in blood and fire".

That image is followed by Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong, who is the older sister of poet Le Anh Xuan, so memories of the large family of artists who devoted their lives to national culture keep flooding back.

"Works like "My Homeland in Blood and Fire" or "Cau Ho Ben Bo Hien Luong" are not just music, but also an oath, the soul of the nation. Through rare documentary films, the audience will see the strong vitality of art in the smoke of bombs - where people still sing, still love, still dream of peace " - Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong confided.

From the rear to the front line – art as a unified flow

A highlight of the film is the way VTV9 recreates the journey of spiritual unification across the two regions of the country through music , dance, and film. While the Northern rear has "Five Brothers on a Tank" - a song of camaraderie and belief in victory, the South has "The Mother Holding a Gun" - a tragic song of a steadfast woman.

Documentary images of photographer Mau Hoang Thiet, cameraman Pham Khac, director Pham Viet Tung (who shot valuable footage when tanks crashed into the gates of the Independence Palace on April 30, 1975 - PV)... show that artists at that time were soldiers - risking their lives in the midst of fire and smoke to record every true footage of an unyielding nation.

"In particular, the footage of tanks entering the Independence Palace on the afternoon of April 30, 1975 by Meritorious Artist Pham Viet Tung was recreated as an immortal moment - where art blends with national history. We were deeply moved watching the film, arousing national pride in the hearts of the young generation of artists" - actress Minh Tram (Lac Long Quan Theatre Club) shared.

The continuation of today's generation - when "Vietnam's Posture" still resonates

The film ends with a touching image: Meritorious Artist Phi Yen and director Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong practice the dance "Vietnamese Posture" for the young people of Lac Long Quan Club. Amidst the incense smoke in commemoration, music and dance intertwined, the hands, eyes and movements seem to send words of gratitude to the previous generation.

That is how VTV9 not only makes films to remember, but also to extend the memory of national culture in today's life. "Vietnam's posture" is no longer the posture on the battlefield, but the posture of people in peacetime - knowing gratitude, knowing pride, and knowing how to create continuity.

A humanistic perspective of VTV9 on resistance culture

The documentary "Culture in the Anti-American War (1960-1975)" does not fall into nostalgia, but rather awakens humanistic energy - viewing culture as the nation's endogenous strength. The meetings between Meritorious Artist Phi Yen, Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong and young actors: Minh Tram, Di Oanh, Quang Dai, along with the memories of great names, created a "chorus of memories", in which each melody and each image exudes patriotism and a spirit of dedication.

With a simple and emotional narrative, VTV9 has contributed to reminding viewers that culture is not only the beauty of the past, but also the spiritual resource for the country to continue to develop today.

"Vietnam's Posture" - Cultural memories in the flames of the resistance war VTV9 recreates the journey of artists during the anti-American war: when art was a weapon and memory was faith. We tried our best to have valuable footage" - director Mai Huong said.
