China Philippines played resiliently against Japan but a red card in the 30th minute caused them to lose control and lose 1-8 in the quarter-finals of the 19th Asian Games women's football.
On the evening of September 30, at Wenzhou Stadium, the Philippines used a 3-4-3 formation to counter Japan's fast-paced short-pass play. But Hali Long's red card caused the system to run out of rhythm.
In the 40th minute, Eva Madarang made a mistake that led to a penalty and from the 11m mark, Tanikawa Momoko opened the scoring for Japan. In the second half, Chiba Remina and Osawa Haruka continued to score in the 58th and 65th minutes to widen the gap to 3-0.

The Philippines held on to hope with a header from captain Sarina Bolden in the 68th minute, but that was all they could muster. In the last 30 minutes including extra time, Japan added five more goals, with Ueno Mami scoring four and Osawa Haruka completing a brace.
This is the third time at this year's Asian Games that the Japanese women's team has scored eight goals. Previously, they won 8-0 against Nepal and Bangladesh. In the remaining match, Japan won 7-0 against Vietnam, both in the group stage.
In the semi-finals, Japan will face host China, who just beat Thailand 4-0. If they win, their likely final opponent will be North Korea, who beat South Korea 4-1 and will face a much weaker Uzbekistan in the semi-finals.
With the defeat of Thailand and the Philippines, Southeast Asia has no representatives in women's football at the 19th Asian Games, after Myanmar and Vietnam were eliminated in the group stage. Their male counterparts only went as far as the round of 16.
