Vietnamese-American female basketball player debuts for Greek team with series of records

(NLDO) - The Vietnamese twin sisters (Truong Twins) debuted with two new football teams yesterday. Among them, Truong Thao Vy (Kaylynne Truong) set a series of records when debuting with the Greek team.

In the Paok Women BC Cup match, Kaylynne Truong (Truong Thao Vy) had the best debut performance of a basketball player in the history of the Greek team with 32 points against Amyntas Club. This is also the second highest scoring achievement in the history of the women's basketball team's matches after Kierra Mallard (33 points) in 2017.

Before yesterday (September 29), Nukiya Mayo held the record with 25 points in her first participation in 2020.

Also in this debut match, the Vietnamese-American female player successfully made 8/12 3-point shots, creating the most 3-point shots in a match of the team in the cup tournament. Breaking the record of 5 3-point shots set by Nausicaa Stavridou from 2010 to present.

With eight three-pointers in a game, Kaylynne Truong achieved the second most in team history, after Dimitra Telidou (nine three-pointers) in 2014.

Additionally, Kaylynne Truong's 67% three-point shooting rate is also the highest in history (double) for a female basketball player to make in a game, surpassing Renia Karlafti's 60% (6/10) from 2021.

On the same day, Truong Thao My (Kayleigh Truong) also made her debut yesterday for BK Trutnov Club (Czech Republic) with 10 points.

Previously, the Truong Twins graduated from Gonzaga University (USA) in mid-May this year. Immediately after that, Kaylynne Truong was selected by the Washington Mystics in the second round of the WNBA (Women's Professional Basketball League) draft for the new season.

However, she was left out of the final 12-player roster and missed out on becoming the first Vietnamese female player to compete in the US Major League Soccer. Kaylynne Truong then joined Paok Women BC in mid-July.

Truong Thao My and Truong Thao Vy (commonly known as the Truong Twins) were born and raised in Houston, Texas (USA). Both have a Vietnamese father and a mother of mixed Vietnamese-American descent.
