On June 16, Chinese accessory company Romoss announced a recall of 490,000 power banks due to potential safety risks. This announcement is the answer to the controversy about the quality of the company's products on recent forums.

The company said the affected devices include three units, two of which are different color versions of the same model. The power bank models include PAC20-272, PAC20-392, and PLT20A-152. “Due to some of the raw materials used in the battery cells, a very small amount of the product may overheat during use, posing a fire or explosion risk in extreme situations,” Romoss wrote in a statement.

The company said it will replace the power bank with another one of equal or higher value than the recalled product. These accessories are guaranteed to comply with Chinese safety standards.

The product is subject to recall and is sold on e-commerce platforms in Vietnam.

It is worth noting that this product is sold in Vietnam. When searching for the names of these models on Shopee and TikTok Shop, users can easily see the recalled chargers from Romoss. They cost 250,000-400,000 VND. It is currently unclear whether these are genuine products or hand-carried goods. At the same time, how will users who buy these products be handled when the Chinese company carries out a large-scale recall?

Romoss has been at the center of controversy in the country of a billion people recently. Several universities in Beijing have issued notices banning the use of their power banks. The reason comes from many incidents of 20,000 mAh capacity accessories from this company being more prone to explosion than other models and brands.

Under the forum post, other users said they also received reminders from the regulatory agency, asking them to throw it away if the model tested positive for danger.

Soon after, the company issued a statement pledging that its products met standards. It also said it would support students and teachers who had problems with the devices it sold. However, the company eventually had to recall all of its products.

Recently, accessory company Anker also announced a recall of 1.1 million PowerCore 10000 (A1263) backup chargers after several fire and explosion incidents occurred.
