Ms. Pham Thi Bach - a resident raising loach in an earthen pond in Tu Hat hamlet (Thanh Hoa commune, Giong Rieng district) - said that her family raises about 1,700 loach (about 200 fish/kg) in an earthen pond area of about 500 square meters.
After a period of raising, Ms. Bach's family has harvested about 350kg of commercial loach (size 4 fish/kg), selling for 250,000 VND/kg, bringing in an attractive source of income.
"Raising loach in earthen ponds also requires a lot of techniques. This fish has delicious meat and high economic value. I mainly supply to restaurants and eateries in Giong Rieng district. Traders are currently looking to buy a lot.
Up to now, I have earned a profit of nearly 50 million VND... In the countryside, I find such a profit very attractive compared to the initial cost as well as the care work," Ms. Bach honestly recounted.

To successfully raise commercial loach in earthen ponds, Ms. Bach regularly checks environmental factors such as pH (suitable pH for fish is from 7 to 7.5); the food for loach is also chosen by her as industrial food with 35% to 40% protein.
Mr. Le Hoai - Head of the Agricultural Extension Station of Giong Rieng District - acknowledged that raising loach is a new economic model in the locality. This fish farming model has brought high economic efficiency to farmers.
The unit will increase technical guidance to help people raise fish more successfully. Through this, the locality will expand the model of raising loach in earthen ponds, helping people increase their income.
