Stabilizing hotel room prices helps Hue tourism reap profits during the holidays

On May 2, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Director of Thua Thien Hue Department of Tourism, said that the province's tourism industry had just had a "bumper" holiday.

It was predicted that Hue tourism industry would face difficulties before the holiday.

According to statistics from the Hue tourism industry, during the recent holiday, the province is estimated to have welcomed about 110,000 tourists to the province for the April 30 and May 1 holidays. The total number of guests who booked accommodation is estimated at 58,000 (including about 43,000 domestic guests and 15,000 international guests), with total revenue estimated at 170 billion VND.

The average room occupancy rate of tourist accommodation establishments reached 85%. Most hotels, including 4-5 star hotels and homestays, were fully booked during the peak days from April 27 to April 30.

Resorts and tourist attractions or experience services associated with nature (hills, streams, waterfalls, seas and lagoons) and cuisine are all full of guests during this time.

The number of visitors to the relics managed by the Hue Monuments Conservation Center in the first four days of the holiday reached more than 58,300 (of which nearly 15,000 were international visitors who bought tickets to visit the relics). The total revenue of the relics during this time reached nearly 9 billion VND.

Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of visitors to Hue increased by 15.8%, tourism revenue increased by 9.7%.

About a week before this year's holiday, the Hue tourism industry only gave a rather modest figure, expecting to welcome about 65,000 visitors to come for fun and relaxation, and total revenue from this industry would be about 101 billion VND.

The reason is that domestic airfares are quite high before the holiday, plus the weather is forecast to be record hot, so the tourism industry predicts that people visiting historical sites will be affected.

Ms. Kim Hang, director of YesHue Eco tourist area (Nam Dong district, Thua Thien Hue), said that during the 5-day holiday, her tourist area welcomed thousands of visitors coming to bathe in the stream and relax to avoid the heat.

"The number of visitors to our tourist area is many times higher than usual. However, we do not increase room rates and services here. The tourist area also mobilizes more staff to serve tourists during the holiday," said Ms. Hang.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, there are many reasons why Hue's tourism industry has been profitable during this holiday. Firstly, Hue has recently introduced many new tourism products such as Kien Trung Palace inside the royal palace; developed and promoted tourism products of natural streams and waterfalls in the area.

Another part, according to Mr. Phuc, is that visitors to Hue during this time mainly come in family groups and often rent or drive themselves. The road system leading to Hue in recent years has also been invested in and completed with the La Son - Tuy Loan and Cam Lo - La Son expressways running smoothly...

This also partly explains why despite the high airfare, the number of visitors to Hue is still good.

The most important thing, according to Mr. Phuc, is that the Hue tourism industry regularly mobilizes and inspects accommodation establishments, motels, hotels, homestays, etc. so that these units can stabilize room prices, not "rip off", nor lower prices too low to compete.

"There is competition between the rooms, which I think is healthy price competition when prices are not raised or lowered too much, but in return, the quality of service is improved. During the holidays, we also regularly check and receive feedback from tourists about "rip-offs", but up to now, we have not recorded any negative feedback about tourism services in Hue during the holidays," said Mr. Phuc.
