Mr Kim expressed “great satisfaction” that the new main battle tank successfully demonstrated its offensive power in its first demonstration on Wednesday, KCNA said.

“Training matches” are designed to test the combat capabilities of tank crews and familiarize them with various tactical missions.
“Rapidly overcoming the worst combat situations, heavy tanks attack targets simultaneously with powerful strikes and penetrate solid defenses with high mobility,” the report said.
In a photo released by KCNA, the North Korean leader can be seen driving a tank himself.
The North Korean drills come as the annual joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States, called Freedom Shield, are scheduled to end on Thursday.
As part of the drills, the South Korean military said the combined forces conducted a joint live-fire exercise at a training base in Pocheon city last week.
In a statement, the South Korean military said the live-fire exercise involved tanks, armored vehicles as well as FA-50 fighter jets.
North Korea has long condemned such military exercises as war rehearsals, while Seoul considers them purely defensive in nature.
